While it is cool to have a 320HP V6, I'd rather have a 300HP V8, for the sound alone, that I'm sure would get better gas mileage than a high strung V6. If the only way to get a V8 in the car IN THE BEGINNING is as an SS at over $35k, we're going to have some serious problems.

That doesn't mean you will not have a choice of 2 V8's eventually...
I've been living with a 3.6 HF V6 for a couple of weeks now. Let me tell you guys, this is one sweet motor. I can just imagine it with even more power and even more torque in a lighter, smaller, Camaro. Prospective buyers will seek this combo out....trust me.

BTW, I wouldn't be surprised if the HF V6 ends up being the base motor.

And also two V8's...........................

60-70+% of all camaro's sold are going to be a v6...regardless if the mid level is 300hp v8 or not...
V6 cars being sold is whats going to determine how successful the Camaro is for GM and help GM make a profit.

The hi-po V6 5th gen looks pretty appealing to me considering the gas prices and my commute. It'd be nice if they could adapt the DOD (w/ flex fuel?) to the V6's as well. I like the sound of a 300hp, 34mpg, flex fuel sipping Camaro for around $25k.

On a different note, has anyone heard if this rumored mid level V6 would include some suspension upgrades as well? Or maybe as a seperate package?

I think I would be content with the HO V-6 IF if it has a nice exhaust note and there is a sport suspension option (Koni Yellow's?) availble.

You ever heard a 350Z or a G35 sport coupe get on it? It doesn’t sound bad....no V8...but V6s can sound pretty cool too.

The mid level V8 isn’t happening and honestly doesn’t make sense. You’re not totally right on the gas mileage either.... But I digress....

I never said anything about the SS starting at 35 grand....Let me tell you something GM know where this car has to be priced to be successful...They know how close they have to be to mustang...you wont be disappointed...

BTW.....I'm not 100% on my engine listings since anything is subject to change...but I will tell you I'm damn close...

What I dont like though, is the prospect of GM using the Hi-Po V6 to compete with the Mustang GT both in price and performance. I DO NOT like the idea of possibly hearing a Mustang owner going yeah, I got a V8 for that price though!

What if.......

....Camaro's base V6 splits the difference between Mustang's '09 V6 and GT? (IOW, it put's the hurt on Mustang V6)

....Camaro's "midlevel" V8 splits the difference between Mustang GT and GT500? (IOW, it hoses the GT).

.....Camaro's top V8..........well, you get the idea.

I think the direct Mustang GT competitor should be a 5.3 making 320-350 hp, not a HF V6, but I am not saying there isn't a market for the HF V6.

That is fine with me, but how much is that midlevel V8, and does the hi-po V6 set its sites squarely on GT performance, and not below or above?
