Why? The only covertible I'd be interested in would be a retractable hard top like Mercedes uses. If you want , look at a vert with it's top up.....

its my opinion, got that!I had T-tops on my trans am GTA and I wished I never got them. They rattled and in Florida the sun beat on your head till you bought sunshades for them.I also think(my opinion again) that they look trashy.I mentioned to my wife tonight that ford may be adding t-tops to the stang and she just rolled her eyes and said" WHY"?I think Ford should leave the new stang alone and leave t-tops to GM.

That's awesome news. The number 1 thing I miss about my old 99 T/A is T-tops.

FYI...the last T-top Mustangs were 88s. The discontinued them around mid-year (or I would have ordered them in my 88 Coupe, which I bought in May of that year).

That's a great move on Ford's part.. but

I'm curious as to know how this would impact the chassis of the Mustang, if it wasn't designed around T-Tops? I know all the 4th gen F-bodies were built around T-tops, unlike the the 3rd gen F-bodies and it always felt much "stiffer" than my 91 Z with T-Tops?

Re: Mustang gets T-tops & a few other tidbits

I had my t-tops off on a nice day, and was sitting at a light.. This little kid in the car next to me innocently says, "hey mister, your car is really cool....but why is your roof broken?"

lmao!

I like my T-tops on my Camaro.. but I'd rather have a true one piece targa top.

I wish Ford would have started doing T-tops with the 99-04 Mustangs. I test drove one the other day and thought it would look really good on them.

It's not our fault that you and your wife are idiots.

Wow. This is unexpected news.

Kudos to Ford to adding even more to the Mustang.

Perhaps this is a "premptive strike" by Ford? Did somethign leak to Ford about a future GM product? Just seems odd that this would come "out of the blue" so to speak.

Because are far as looks go hardtop/T-top > Vert.

Converatable is usually $3000+ , T-tops are like $900

So really...the 05 Mustang is more Fbody then Mustang?
Unique chassis to only the Mustang (As of now)
Live axle set up similar to the third and 4th gens,
strut front suspension
and now TTops?

If Ford really does do this, this is a slap in GM and Chevy's face.

LOL. Ya, and it looks like an F-Body, and has a typical F-body drivetrain!

Re: Mustang gets T-tops & a few other tidbits

The only problem I ever had with T-tops is how they look when there on . Let the roof be glass , but from a side profile , when the tops are on make it look like a hard top . Blend the side outer rails of the t-tops into the A and B pillars and make the outer rails body color . I would be sold then . Thats what I always hated about the lighter colored 4th gens , and the camaros that didnt have the black roof . For 1 there was no a-pillar then add the black t-tops , but it had a body color b-pillar , IMO it just didnt look right .

Great move on Fords part . They are really not leaving GM any leeway on the next Camaro epecially since GM will be a couple years late to the game and there will already be a couple hundred thousand happy new stang owners out there .

I really dont think that GM will forget that more than 2/3 of F-body buyers choose this $1000 option , and the Mustang having T-tops will make GM really 2nd guess offering a panoramic roof type sunroof like in the G6 . Which is what I figured GM would do .

Personally I say why not? I love the fact that I can get an open-air experience and I don't have to deal with the cost, weight or rigidity issues of a convertible. Just like I've been saying for years about the F-bodies. But c'mon let's hear how Mustang getting them is soooo cool.
I guess some people can't make the leap that owning one car doesn't necessarily make one blindly loyal to the manufacturer. So yes, I still think the Burt Reynolds bar is dumb. It's 2005. They (Ford, GM, Whoever) can give us a true targa without any of the 1970's stigma. I don't see any corvette owners begging for the return of T-tops.

Re: Mustang gets T-tops & a few other tidbits

I used to hate T-tops--the reducton in rigidity, leaking, astetics (white car, black T-tops--not uniform) and the cost.

But then I had a POS 87 Trans Am that I drive around for a day or two--the t-tops off were kinda nice.

Still--I'd never opt for them on a new car, pretty pricey option.

If a Camaro never came with t-tops I really wouldn't mind. T-tops do not make a Camaro--they are just an option.
