Mustang gets T-tops & a few other tidbits
Mustang gets T-tops & a few other tidbits
Outside of horsepower, what's the one thing that most owners love about Camaros that were all but unique to the Camaro (& Firebird) for well over a decade???
Now, for those of you who are holding out, Ford steps up it's campaign to rob more disgruntled F-body owners. The Mustang will have a T-top option in the near future. It will most likely be an outside builder doing the job (just like in the old days), but is likely to eventially move in-house.
I asked about this some time ago, and got a pretty shallow, non-comittal answer. Now it seems like it's a certainty.
Ford Mustangs had T-top options from the T-top heydays in the mid 1970s all the way up till the facelifted Fox Mustang of 1987 (though it was a very rare option in later years)
My guess, expect it as an option this fall.
Other Ford news:
* Ford will be deciding soon on replacing the Town Car with a streched version of the chassis used for the Five Hundred. They evidently have OK'ed a rebodied AWD version of the Five Hundred for Lincoln. The LS will be repositioned as a sports sedan, and will likely continue till the end of the decade.
*Crown Vic, & Town Car will get an appearence upgrade later this year.
*Apparently, Falcon won't be coming to the US afterall.
*Word also that Cougar will be coming back. No word on if it will be based on the Mustang or yet another FWD chassis.

Re: Mustang gets T-tops & a few other tidbits
So let's see WERM and others who put down the "Burt Reynolds bar" Camaro and Firebirds rationalize this one. Somehow I figure, once again, if it suddenly becomes a new Mustang feature (like live axles and front struts) it'll be the toast of the town.
Personally I say why not? I love the fact that I can get an open-air experience and I don't have to deal with the cost, weight or rigidity issues of a convertible. Just like I've been saying for years about the F-bodies. But c'mon let's hear how Mustang getting them is soooo cool.

I cant wait to put mine in the next two weeks.
Re: Mustang gets T-tops & a few other tidbits
I'd prefer a hardtop or even a targa top, but wouldn't mind a T-top either.
I'm surprised Ford will be offering this considering we haven't see one in production since 88...17 years ago.

i'm not too excited about it since that could be a big potential seller for the future camaro
o well, ford is in the business of selling cars, so hats off to them if they can pull it off right and make it look somewhat decent
Re: Mustang gets T-tops & a few other tidbits
Whats good for them will hopefully be good for us, so thumbs up to Ford if they do it.
I LOVE ttops. Id prefer a targa, but I dont like the idea of having a convertible in order to get some open air. A 5th gen will be atleast my 6th fbody, and my first with ttops (I have terrible luck getting ttop cars huh).

What exactly is trashy about ttops? They dont detract from the looks of the car when on and look great when off. Thats a stupid statement.

This is quite a surprise. I'm sure someone can photochop something for us as a preview; it'll be a different look.
I'm sure I'm not alone in seeing the Mustang gaining even more appeal to our side of the fence. I think I'd still hold out for special edition such as a Mach1, though.
