I'm very happy they are around today... unfortuantely they add some weight. It's reality. It's for the best. Get over it.
2) Size:
I've continually said this size issue gets blown out of proportion (no pun intended) on this board... make the car a size that fits the styling, and all is good. Only someone who really wants to complain about something is going to notice or care if a car is 2 or 3 inches longer than some "maximum acceptable length" number that someone pulls out of thin air!!! .
That said, I think the size needs to accomodate the styling. I think the new Mustang looks HUGE... but that is because it is so strongly styled after the old Mustangs that were so much smaller.... it makes the new car look gigantic and odd... this does not mean that the size is wrong... it just means the size is wrong for the styling... IMO.

OK I’ll admit I was one of those that believed that the upcoming Camaro would be a little too big for my taste (I’ve always thought SN95 was the correct size for the pony car class)however I’m satisfied with the last 2 pages of this thread.. I’ll withhold judgement till more info. Becomes readily available.

You missed it. I was joking at his wording it in the Toyota "MR2" convention. As a Fiero owner, I may know what a 2M6 is...

You really don't have a ghost of a chance (no pun intended) in such a collision. Good luck... you'll be needing it.

Sure low weight is important. But so is HP/TQ. The 05 GTO for example, certainly no lightweight... but you better believe it's a performance car. So is the Charger SRT8.
As for '05 GTOs, or SRT8s, they wouldn't worry me NEARLY as much at the track (road courses) as a Lotus Elise with less than half the horsepower would.
Maybe not first, but it's important to women buyers and it's important to the parents of any value-oriented car aimed at a younger owner.
How do you know, really, that gas prices are going to go up much in coming years? The only reason they are up now is due to uncertainty about terrorism in the mideast.
I'm an optimist. I believe we are going to root out and destroy terrorism as a feared political force
- the same way we imploded Soviet communism. When we do, gas prices will be boring again.

NEW YORK - Wall Street retrenched Friday as the trade deficit widened and oil prices surged, while a weak quarterly report from Dell Inc. also disheartened the market. The major indexes ended the week mixed.
Traders were displeased when the Commerce Department reported that the trade deficit, the imbalance between what America sells abroad and what it imports, is running higher than last year's all-time record. The trade deficit rose to $58.8 billion in June, an increase of 6.1 percent from the May deficit of $55.4 billion.
More than half the deterioration in June reflected America's surging foreign oil bill, which hit a record high of $19.9 billion, an increase of almost 10 percent from May. Analysts say climbing oil prices will send that figure higher in coming months.

There's optimism, and then there's sticking your head in the sand. Times will change. And we as a nation are woefully unprepared.
Hmm. Time to go polish your sport bikes. And lay off the hate-orade

Re: More GTO news....
As was mentioned earlier, GM is prepared with the LSX line of engines. If a Vette can make 505hp and still get 26 highway, I'm sure a 300~hp DOD gas sipper could be produced if we come upon a gas shortage/massive price inflation. The General might be the only automaker prepared for this in this doomsday scenario with the Hemi and modular Fords not being as economical fuel-wise (AFAIK). We could have our performance car AND get good mileage...something their competitors may have to scramble to catch up to.
Let's look on the bright side around here people. We're getting our car back.

Dan Baldwin: FWIW, I have a couple of sport bikes, and believe me, being lightweight and maneuverable is a TREMENDOUS boon to safety.
