We're making absurd claims that we can get an alumunum IRS vehicle at $20,000 with no sacrafice anywhere.
We came up with a 3600 pound figure from thin air, and are using it as gospel truth.
And finally, very few people are taking a whisker's moment to even think realistically about some of the things they are saying.
Yet, we have so-called "Camaro enthusiasts", and self described "Passionate Camaro" people. I don't see many. All I see is a group of panic mongers, reactionaries, naysayers, and others who seem to want to suspend reality and reason to make an even bigger claim. And some of you actually think GM "has" to come here to hear "real" Camaro enthusiasts?
Give me a break.
You will have a chance to see and hear what's going on soon.
The best advise I can give you (and I think Red's already said this) is to sit down, shut up, and see what comes out.
Red must REALLY hate coming to this place.

AC
Cruise control
FLOORMATS
Manual windows
Anything bigger than a ecotec
Front license plate bracket
4-wheel antilock brakes
you get silver painted wheels
I left out options like keyless entry and cd players that will play MP3s and some other things that are not standard on every model.

But the point is that GM has demonstrated that for $19,995, it can deliver a car with all alloy, double wishbone SLA suspension all around, DOHC motor, 18" wheels and convertible top.
How much would a coupe version go for with all the items you listed?

2)was always optional
3)they're $85 canadian
4)see #2
5)i don't think a 3.9 is much more to make if any
6)i'll give you that but what does it weigh?3lbs?
7)alot of GMs cars don't come with ABS
8)so did our camaros
i priced out a solstice with floormats, LSD and ABS and my total is $27,565 canadian. A mustang convertable starts at $29,090

Add the cost of rear seats and the extra metal to make the car, which would have to be bigger to add the back seats.
Last rumor was either a M6 or a A6 transmission. What do those cost vs the aisin 5 speed Manual and auto.
A base v6 Camaro will not sell if it is striped like the base solstice. It must have some of the items standard that the Solstice does not. that will add cost.
now...
where would that put the price...
far above the base solstice even without the convertible top.

beyond what the introduction of the Camaro might spawn.

The point I'm making is, the cost difference of a convertible top compared to a same model coupe is usuallu $3-5K. That would more than cover the options you listed on a coupe....including the 2 extra seats.
Re: More GTO news....
for comparison a base mustang $19,910:
standard
210 hp v6
5-speed manual
Solid rear axle
16" painted aluminum wheels
AC
cloth bucket seats with 4-way driver adjust, 2 way passenger adjust; 50/50 split-fold rear seats backs
4-wheel power disk brakes
Remote illuminated keyless entry system
tilt wheel
speed control
instrument cluster including tach
rear window defroster
day/night mirror
power side mirror
cup holders (2)
Power locks and windows
front floor mats
It seems by not adding all of the alloy materials in the Solstice (including the IRS) and a convertible, you can have alot of the features that will help the base car sell. I don't want to compare the Solstice to the Mustang because they are for two completly different markets but since you brought it up, for the same price, you get alot more with the mustang than the solstice.
Which is the Camaro going to be more like?
On a side note, I'm glad the Camaro will be getting a IRS set-up and I will live with the extra weight that using steel will give rather than the added cost of alloy.
and
Who said Chevy won't use alloy for a Z28 to help reduce weight. The Z28 and SS for that matter, can afford the extra cost of alloy.
