Hence the reason I said.....
GM is gaining ground against it's competitors and will accelerate that rate as new product comes on line....
Obviously GM will never return to the glory days of market share, but things are headed the right way...

And keep in mind.... this is all because of Rebates. Now if GM didnt offer rebates and have the image of "cars for the cheap" or "must buy because of $5,000 rebate", where would GM's Market share be? Do you see Toyota, Nissan giving $5,000 rebates?

Eh, I guess I will dwelve more into it in my business study of GM.

This is a whole 'nother story. The GM rebates can actually bite them in the rear. If you stop in to look at a vehicle and see the sticker (like 29k for a colorado) you will run out of there quick. The thing is, is that GM has been doing this for so long, everyone is used to it, and thinks if they dont get a rebate its not a good deal.......

Re: a little legal 'strong-arming' from GM???

can anybody remember how GM reacted last year when pictures of the brand new Generation Corvette (not just a version of the Vette) leaked before launch? There were the pictures from the car hauler commercial, embargo pics leaked, Hot Wheels put C6 pictures on their site early, and a few other incidents. I don't remember this much backlash from then? What changed?

My guess would be what other info was in the press kit. Two moths seems like a short deal before release, but it's a long time.

Anyone want to venture a guess on how much sales < read money > can be tied to a major enthusiast mag cover?

Let's say you are a magazine editor, and planning your future issues...want to run a big story that's old news to the internet savvy car enthusiast crowd using shots folks have seen everywhere on the net? Want to think about convincing folks it's worthwhile to be subscribed to an "old news" publication like your mag if you run such big features on "old" news?

GM started the rebates in an attempt to re-jumpstart car sales (and part of the economy) after Sept. 11th, since the public had just stopped making purchases. This was actually a good thing to do on their part, but now the public has just come to expect it. People who could not afford certain vehicles before are moving up in their car status, and getting something they would not have normally been able to pay for. Also, people have now become accustomed to $0 money down since the rebates would cover it.

You should see the low-income people that come in and want to purchase a new Tahoe with $0 money down for $500 a month! They have no idea exactly how much of a vehicle a Tahoe is. I have to keep myself from calling them retarded and kicking them out of my office.

The car buying public have become greedy.

Who's "Paul"? And who was his source?

I'll be a little more than just "bent" if it's one of the people I rely on.

I'm also sure it's going to effect my ability to get info from now on.

Guy, I'm sure it will. It's already caused me plenty of headaches.

People believe they are above and beyond the rules, go about posting images recklessly and, in the end all claim they "didn't know" it was bad.

Pffft

No one cared, largely because everyone was on holiday vacation. After the fact I spoke with a media rep over it, and he pretty much said "Oh Well".....it was gonna be introduced in a few weeks, and it gave us good press..and that sometimes "we wnat things like this to happen" even though I spent a lot of time on my sites deleting pictures because I didn't wanna break embargoes. So GM is guilty of mixed messages.

Definately guilty...So they don't strong arm over the brand new design being leaked, but they get all pissed off about just a 'variation' of that design being leaked? Either GM is extremely disorganized on the whole situation or the Z06 is REALLY going to be something to look at.

I guess my advice to anyone posting links is this: How would you feel if someone posted your credit card number? Would you NOT be infuriated if someone else posted that link on their site? Look....don't use righteous indignation when you're caught. You KNOW the pics were not meant to be out in the public domain.....

That's it...I'm done. It's been great.
Well, I'm afraid I have to agree with Red here. You can't just have a flagrant disregard for another man's livelihood. I this case that livelihood is GM's and its employees who need the hype generated by the undisclosed product.

I don't think some people understand the damage they do when they release copyright information illegally. It's not just some little game. It's millions of dollars and people's jobs on the line.

Having said that, I think the point has been made by GM to its enthusiasts. Ford is now riding on it's most sucessful pony car since 1964. The heat's gotta be on at GM. They're bound to be edgy so tread softly.

I don't think GM cares too much that they are still having success with the M*stang. (although no one knows how the new style is or will do as it just hasn't been out long enough) I'm sure it's an issue to some in GM but the only way they'll truly care is if they treat the Camaro the way F*rd has been treating it's car. By pushing it and making it seem important.

"Either GM is extremely disorganized on the whole situation or the Z06 is REALLY going to be something to look at."

I'll go with extremely disorganized.

it's a matter of principle...last year those photos were taken when the car was out in public, and fair game for anyone, iirc (i usually don't see carmakers get upset anymore about spy shots, hot weather or track testing shots, etc....The Z06 photos was proprietary info, which were distributed before the release date despite the explicit instruction to keep the lid on...
