It's Official: 2011 Ford Mustang GT has 5.0-liter V8
Ya ya, that's it. How could Ford be so stupid do not give the V6 LESS power!
You may have missed my sarcasm. I just think it's funny. Anyone who owns a mustang GT from 2010 on back who doesn't have their car modded a little or in some cases a lot, risks getting spanked by the new V6. I just don't remember this ever happening before in relation to pony cars over the past 25 years. I thought the HP wars got crazy again in the late 90's. I just wonder when it will stop.

we need to bring the weight back the the 1980s level. But crash standards and customer expectations in that reguard probably wont let it. Not entirely a bad thing but it is what it is.
So really GM could lose the spare, insert a can of fixaflat. add some lighter wheels then the monsters on the SS. And come up with another 50-75lbs of weight loss and pretty much be back on top... atleast in a straight line comparision. Im all for GM offering a "factory lightweight package" instead of a track pack for the racers...similar to getting a Mustang LX with the 5.0 or the Turbo regal we4 package
By default, all 5th gens come with the can of fix-a-flat like he suggested. On the LS, 1LT, and 2LT models, a real spare is optional, but you can't get it on the V8 (I assume that this is because the spare won't fit over the Brembos).

I would really be more interested in discussing/analyzing how GM would introduce lighter weight components on the current 5G than discussing the 6G at this point. I'm sure there are many ways GM could embark on stripping weight from the 5G given what was learned from the ZR1 project.
This would be a far more interesting discussion than continually ragging on the 5G... as is par for the course on this forum.
I'm sure that they could strip out as much weight as the customer is willing to pay for.
The question then becomes, will the buyers be that enthused, to buy a 150-200lb lighter Camaro SS, for $5000 + more than the equivalently equipped Mustang??
If the answer is yes, then they should work on it. However, since I have heard of no carbon fiber, or aluminum suspension components in the works, I guess we can pretty much know the answer.
The reality is, until the costs of these super lightweight, but still strong, materials comes down substantially, we won't see alot of them in mainstream "priced" cars.

Motortrend just posted up an article where they take and compare the 2011 GT vs the 2010 SS vs 2010 SRT8 Challenger.
They got a 12.7 @ 111.3 mph this time out of the stang.
