Has anyone stopped to think how quick the '06 Monte Carlo SS will be?!

Things we missed!!!
*The Monte Carlo weighs a mere 3400 pounds (3300 in V6 form).
*The F-body typically weighed about 3400 pounds.
*The LS4 5.3 V8 makes 300 horsepower & 325 lbs/ft of torque.
*LT1 Fbodies made 285 hp and 325 torque. LS1s ran 320 to 325 ft/lbs of torque.
The 2006 Monte Carlo SS has the potential of not just out accelerating LT1 Fbodies, it also has the potential of not letting LS1 Fbodies run away from it in stoplight grand prixs!
A Monte &%$@! Carlo!!!!

Yes, to all points, except the FWD trans cannot take the full tq of the LS4, so it will be torque managed massively. The S/C 3800 already is tq managed to a great extent in the GTP. You're going to be giving up maybe as much as 100 ft lbs, and the corresponding HP to go with it, going into and coming out of every shift. That's going to drop tenths of seconds off 1/4 mile times each shift.
So, I don't think the Monte will be faster than the early LT1 cars, but I do think a stock automatic LT1 car better be on guard. I don't think it will be uncommon for V8 Monte's to pick off the A4/2.73 LT1 cars.

That is either dedication or stupidity, I can't decide right now.

I could see low 14's, with good conditions and such yeilding something like a 13.9, but not 13.5-13.8's. Even 13.9's seem like a big stretch. Fwd, and the use of a slushbox won't help.
But on a roll-race, i think it might have enough to hang with a Mustang GT...atleast the auto versions.

I agree with everything you've said until you gave LS1 HP numbers, which are more realistically 350 hp and 350 torque in the 3400 lbs body. Add to the fact the new Monte Carlo is FWD, I don't think LS1 owners have anything to worry about.

Where's the "I'm with stupid" smilie when you need it.
I've owned exactly 1 FWD in my life and absolutely hated the driving dynamics. Better yet, my wife drove her parents Accord for a couple of miles this winter and had this to say, "Now I understand why mom doesn't like driving in the winter. Their car is awful. I don't ever want to have a FWD". This from a gal that drove an old Chevette an hour each way to university for 4 years.
My cars will ALWAYS be RWD or AWD and she will probably always have a 4WD or AWD.
BTW, I think it's great that the Monte is getting the sweet sound, HP and torque of a wonderful V8 and I hope Chevy sells a gazillion of them.

I image they will respond just as well as LS1's to mods. And aside from Torque steer, I bet they pull out of the whole better.
I'd take one too.

I'd just be much happier if they were further down the RWD path.

Thats some shocking info there guionM and I liked the monte. Well I probally like it cause more of the NASCAR involvement than anything but I think it looked cooler than most of the other vehicles based off Nascar Stock cars.
I really like the Monte Carlo the 06 version in this shot. http://img163.echo.cx/my.php?image=06monte2zj.jpg I think GM corrected my gripes with it and that was the nose just I wish they would darken the headlights a little or make the areas around where the lights are darker to give it a sportier and sinister look. The headlights on the MontPala too bland and generic but they look better than the competition I think and I really like the V8 in that car as well. Even though I would rather see it RWD I don't scream and complain about it not being RWD cause well I've owned just FWD vehicles so far. But the car looks great in black. I kinda wish Chevy waited on the Intimidator SS Signature Edition cause this one fits the bill alot better than the ones they put out in years past.

Just for the record, the rims on the Impala SS and Monte SS are hideous.

These new Monte SS's are beasts though...It's going to be wierd actually having to show a Monte Carlo some respect.

wow. Where'd you drive to? My 98 was approching 49k when i traded it in last december. It was an A4, and a very strong runner. No way a Fwd Ls4 Monte SS that's just as heavy would come close. If anything, it'll probably trap 100mph or so at most. Well below the typical Ls1 and more inline with the LT1's.
Either way, it should be a nice sleeper.
