Changing the topic just a tad, what will GM do if the tranny-nanny was bypassed?!?!

What's gonna happen when the thrill-seekers do their burnouts in reverse, and donuts with the e-brake?

Will the black-box tell on them?

Things we missed!!!

*The Monte Carlo weighs a mere 3400 pounds (3300 in V6 form).

*The F-body typically weighed about 3400 pounds.

*The LS4 5.3 V8 makes 300 horsepower & 325 lbs/ft of torque.

*LT1 Fbodies made 285 hp and 325 torque. LS1s ran 320 to 325 ft/lbs of torque.

The 2006 Monte Carlo SS has the potential of not just out accelerating LT1 Fbodies, it also has the potential of not letting LS1 Fbodies run away from it in stoplight grand prixs!

A Monte &%$@! Carlo!!!!
You know what's effing hilarious? When I stated on this very same board that my GS400 (300 horsepower @ 5600 rpm, 325 torque @ 3400 rpm, RWD, 5-speed auto, 3650 pounds) would have outrun my 1994 LT1 Z28 A4 w/ 2.73:1 rear end gearing, from a roll on the highway, all hell broke loose.

Yet you people are talking about this taking down an LT1 or Mustang GT from any speed and hanging with an LS1 fbody based on specs that are nearly identical?

I mean, true my GS4 weighs 250 pounds more... but 250 pounds will make almost no difference on a highway run. And what difference there is would more than by made up by the .28 drag coefficient the GS4 has (I don't know about the Monte but I doubt it's quite there) and the extra gear it has.

I don't really care that much. It sounds like the Monte is going to be pretty stout... but just looking at the specs and making those statements about the Monte, but claiming my far less spectacular statement about my car couldn't possibly be true... well that's the purest definition of bias I can think of.

I'm not pointing my finger at any of you because none of you guys may have participated in those two lounge threads from a year or so ago. But it's still the general consesnsus... or so it seems.

EDIT this post is even moreso true if the link I posted after this is correct with the estimated 3600 pounds instead of the 3400 posted originally in this thread.

Are you sure you aren't quoting the weight for the V6 model?

I feel the exact way. I have respect for all cars that go fast, but there is just something about a RWD V8 that does it for me like no other car. Getting sideways shifting into 2nd is the most amazing feeling ever.

There's some serious withdrawl going on in here......
There certainly is!!!! However, modding my 8 year old Z into the low 13's, and still having it look brand new cushions the withdrawl. Although, I keep getting that feeling about the low cost of these new GTO's..... and they have independent rear suspension.... and they are giving them away at employee cost..... ummmmm, if I didn't love my camaro it would be gone like yesterday.

I feel the same way at times. I look at alot of fresher designs on the road and my design hardrive starts spinning and....

If anything, it'll probably trap 100mph or so at most. Well below the typical Ls1 and more inline with the LT1's.

Either way, it should be a nice sleeper.
Mine has 133k on it.....

Im thinkin it will trap 100-102.

[QUOTE=Chrome383Z]I don't know. LS1's are getting old/tired now and are just plain FAT. I could see the Monte taking early LS1's. hehe

I wouldnt dought if these engines are slightly underated. I guess we'll find out.

Initial figures had it at 3400 pounds.

If it's really 3600 pounds, then two things come to mind:

1. Though quicker than before, it's not exactly going to be the LT1 runner I imagined.

and 2. there isn't much of a weight difference between it and the GTO.

well i think that from a roll these things may be able to take on an LT-1, or maybe an auto GT, but no way are they gonna touch an LS-1. PLus I'm waitin to see how long it takes their owners to start ripping motor mounts and snapping half shafts. Hell it was hard enough launching my beretta at the track when it only had 170 hp and 200 ft lbs. I can only imagine how hard its gonna be to lauch that thing with 300 hp and 325 ft lbs.

I doubt ripping up drivelines will be a problem with stock Monte & Impy SSs. GM didn't put these things into production years ago (remember Moss's LS1 Impala of about 5 years ago?) due to drivetrain and torque steer issues.

I'm pretty sure that like the F-body's rear axle, we won't hear of problems till people up the power and put on sticky tires.
