Exclamation Has anyone stopped to think how quick the '06 Monte Carlo SS will be?!

It dawned on me while posting on another thread. The Monte Carlo has enough going for it that it might match the Mustang GT..... which about matches LS1 F-bodies till the higher end.

Things we missed!!!

*The Monte Carlo weighs a mere 3400 pounds (3300 in V6 form).

*The F-body typically weighed about 3400 pounds.

*The LS4 5.3 V8 makes 300 horsepower & 325 lbs/ft of torque.

*LT1 Fbodies made 285 hp and 325 torque. LS1s ran 320 to 325 ft/lbs of torque.

The 2006 Monte Carlo SS has the potential of not just out accelerating LT1 Fbodies, it also has the potential of not letting LS1 Fbodies run away from it in stoplight grand prixs!

A Monte &%$@! Carlo!!!!

I don't understand why Monte's get bashed so often... well, ya I do, because a lot of people can't get past it being FWD...

It's a great car, and the new SS is gonna be a barnstomer... It's gonna **** off a lot of pony-car owners too.

LS4 Grand Prix GXP ran 14.3 in the newest MotorTrend

I could see Montes hitting 14.0. With the tranny nanny gone it could be right with an automatic GT

Try this on for size:

The Grand Prix is over 150 pounds heavier than a Monte Carlo.

I'm gonna make a prediction: The 2006 Monte is going to be a beast! Without breaking out the calculator, it seems like it may to have the same power to weight ratio as last year's GTO. Pretty amazing for something that big!

Yeah, the fwd...and awkward styling, and auto trans, NASCAR image, and again, awkward styling. And fwd.

heheheh.

Well, the styling is subjective... I like it. I like the update even more... especially the front clip...

The NASCAR image thing... ya, I'll give you that. It's a selling point to some, a bad point to others. Honestly, I doubt there are a ton of people who pass on them because of being worried about giving off a NASCAR image...

It would be interesting to see a manual tranny on it... but, then again, the highly regarded Monte Carlo SS's of the 80's didn't offer a manual either...

I think once the tougher 6 speed FWD tranny goes in, hopefully a year at most, we could even see them modded into the low 13s.

I don't really care if it ran 9s. I just can't get past the FWD.

Give it six REVERSE gears, turn the seat around . . . never mind.

So you won't consider ANY car unless it is RWD?

That is either dedication or stupidity, I can't decide right now.

I'm not a 'straight-liner', but to handle that much power, isn't the computer going to pull the power back during shifts? Granted this takes milli-seconds now, but add 2 or 3 shifts together plus the time for the engine to get back up to full power and I doubt it'll be as quick as your predicting.

It will be nice tho if I'm wrong....

Personally, if I wanted a high hp sedan, I'd want it in RWD.. or perhaps AWD.

FWD doesn't make any performance sense.. Its main advantage is packaging, to optimize interior space.. Perfect for a normal daily driver, where cost and functionality is more important than performance.

IOW, if I was looking for just a plain utlitiarian sedan.. FWD is no problem

If I was looking for a high performance sedan, FWD is out of the question.

For me.. these FWD V8's may be the only way I can both get a V8 and NOT get a SUV.

GF wants a AWD/4x4 SUV or if its a car, it needs to be FWD (or awd) or else its not going to happen.

Who care what your GF thinks, unless she's paying for it.

What about the Charger?
