You would have to have a fog over your eyes to not aknowledge the 01-02 F-bodies were making every bit of the rated power in C5 LS1 . It may read less on actual ratings , but GM has already shown with the GTO and F-bodies both , the will give a lesser car the same power .

Re: Corvette VS New Camaro
I would say that the top camaro would get 380 hp max if the base vette doesnt get a bump in power. I doubt we'll ever see a near $40k cobra fighter in camaro form. If u want something like that than get a vette. if u want 4 seats buy the camaro and spend the extra money to mod it up

.....a 450 horse car for ONLY 25K?!
.......uh, OK.

Re: Corvette VS New Camaro
To answer the premise, and just taking a educated guess:
1. Camaro isn't going to out power the Corvette.
2. Chevy is going to charge an arm & a leg for an uber-powered Camaro, so unless you're getting your rocks off sitting on the sidelines, reading magazines, benchracing, and most importantly, completely removed from actually buying one (like some here seem to be ), you aren't going to be buying one......... and Chevrolet knows this (remember, Chevy is about actual sales figures instead of bench racers wanting bragging rights).
3. This uber-Camaro, if built, MAY keep up with a Corvette, but it won't be quicker than the top Vette.
4. People who buy Corvettes, WANT Corvettes, not Camaros. The final 2 year (at minimum) Corvette outsold V8 Camaros, putting any thought that Corvette needs "horsepower protection" or that horsepower is all-important in Camaros into the catagory of utter foolishness.

Re: Corvette VS New Camaro
IMO a Corvette customer probably will not cross shop a Camaro and a Camaro customer usually doesn't cross shop a Corvette. If I were to guess at a minimum the top Camaro will get the same engine every other V8 performace vehicle is getting, the 400hp 6 liter. I can see 450hp even if it is more power than a base Corvette. Is it gonna cost $25000? Probably not.
I can see why a Mustang costs that much, because I had one for a week when I went on vacation we rented a 2005 V6 convertable it had 1300 miles when I picked it up and the interior was falling apart. So much for keeping the cost down. I'd spend close to $40,000 for the car I want.

I think thoughts of a 450hp camaro are a pipe dream. I am with the others and actually with GuionM who months ago suggested the standard v8 is likely to be a 350hp 5.3L.....
I think we may see an LS2 powered Z06 type car (Z28) that might approach 400hp...like a detuned 385 that everybody will know hits 400 with a cold air intake, but that car is going to cost every bit of $35K and possibly more.
Besides, what engine would they put in the car for 450HP? They won't go blown, because if the Vette doesn't get a blower then no other Chevy V8 is going to get one. Its not going to be the LS7 because its 505 hp and unless you want a $50,000 Camaro you don't want a hand built motor in your Camaro..It won't be the LS2 because its 400hp. Unless there is some magical 6.5L project floating around out there we don't know about that makes 450hp but is cheaper than a lawn mower you're not going to see 450hp in a Camaro in our lifetimes.
Camaro will get the highest output MASS production V8 available, which will be the LS2, and it will be 10-15hp less advertized HP than the Base C6. If C6 gets a bump to 410 then maybe we'll see 395.
Any thoughts of a Shelby GT500 killer I think are just fantasies at this point, and honestly worth nothing but bragging rights.
Sometimes we need a reality check around here.

Didn't Z284Ever talk about the new upcoming L92 being used as the engine in the GT500 fighter? Something like 445HP...
It's entirely doable, I don't think it's a pipe dream. If we get any GT500 fighter, I know it would be alot north of 40K.

Re: Corvette VS New Camaro
What's hilarious abot this thread is the contrast to the IRS threads. In them, everyone seems to think IRS is an unnnecessary expense, keep the car cheap at all costs. In this thread it's give the camaro every engine chevy has, cost be damned.
Of course, the buying public at large would probably have a better riding and real world handling IRS car with 300hp than a 400hp solid axle car anyday. Hopefully GM realizes where the better place to save a few bucks is if they want to maximize sales.
