Corvette VS New Camaro

SO with the new vette pushing out only 400 crank hp can GM really come out with a Camaro with 450HP like everyone is hoping? All those new vette owners will be very pissed being stomped by a 25k car. OR................Will a 2007 C6 come equiped with more hp, thus making the 2007 Z06 a freekish fast car.......... Any thoughts?

Re: Corvette VS New Camaro

Isnt the new vett on a 427 V8? If the old vette had 400hpp I would think the 427 would put out more, maybe I have my news mixed up though.

You're not going to get a 450 HP Camaro for $25,000.

Re: Corvette VS New Camaro

wasnt that kind of big deal with like the 2000C5 vs a 2000SS. They were so close in performance but so far away in price. Wont we be treading on the same thing if the HP numbers are close again? Look at the GT abd Cobra. GT is a like 325 hp or so and the Cobra is like around 400-465.

Re: Corvette VS New Camaro

If I had to guess about the next uber-Camaro, I'd say (based on what I've read here and elswhere) it'll be about 435HP and (my guess) cost close to $40k. Shouldn't be too much of a problem; I'm guessing (again) it'll be close to the Vette in performance. For that cost/performance, you can get a two-seat (Vette), or 2+2 seat (Z/28) screamer.

Ding ding ding!!!!

Took the words right out of my mouth. Nightwave is right...you're not going to get a Shelby GT500 competitor for anything less than high $30s. Just NOT going to happen.

Re: Corvette VS New Camaro

I don't think you will see anything from GM ever for under $30K with 400HP or more (unless the Colorado SS gets the LS2)

THe current GTO and Vette have the same engine and same HP and the GTO is $12,000 cheaper I don't see why the Camaro would have any problem

I wouldn't be supprised if the Vette was putting out 425HP by 2007 or 2008

I still find it hard to believe that the Camaro will have that much hp. I would have guessed 375-400hp at the most.

Re: Corvette VS New Camaro

After seeing the power numbers for the new trucks, i'd be surprised if the camaro even got a 6.0 LS2 as it's base V8. Something like the new 350hp 5.3L would seem to fit the bill much better for a poor man's performance car (camaro) and keep the halo cars special (Vette, SSR, GTO).

Also consider the idiot/insurance factor. If they put 400hp LS2s into cars that kids can afford to buy, insurance rates will be even worse than they were for the camaro. There's a reason that vette insurance is cheaper than an f-body. The same pattern from the first musclecar era will repeat and insurance as much as gas prices will serve to squash the modern HP races.

NOPE.

And I've explained enough times why.

Re: Corvette VS New Camaro

By the time the Camaro hits the streets, does anyone honestly think the "current" Corvette will only be pushing 400HP in std. trim and 505HP in Z06 trim?

Re: Corvette VS New Camaro

You will NEVER see a Camaro have the same HP numbers rated from GM. NEVER. The Corvette has to have a "little" more to keep it the elite car in the stable... I don't even know why this is being discussed... plus as Chris 96 WS6 and Z28Wilson said... you will never get 450 hp for the price the Camaro can sell for...

Never know. The C5 went its entire 8 year life cycle with just a 5 HP bump in base power...although with the horsepower competition rising as rapidly as it is now I would hope it would spur Chevy to keep the Corvette at the proper level.
