Change the bet.
Flint doesn't really have any restaurants worth a damn, and the closest thing to a good restaurant in the Birch Run area (Franken Eck) closed.
Make him take you to the Excalibur in Southfield.

Re: The Big One GMAC Gone
GMAC is the reason GM has billions of dollars in cash on hand. God only knows when GMNA will turn a profit. GM might make a separate company out of GMAC like Hughes, but selling it outright isnt wise.

As to a "fat" consultancy, it will never happen after the call for Wags to resign. My intention is to help GM increase market share and convince them to stop interfering with the sales environment using their whiz bang gimmicks that make it very difficult for dealers to operate in a logical fashion. Not knowing what or when they are going to announce as the next big thing, proper ordering of inventory, and many other sound business practices, become a nightmare. I'll not be sharing The Plan with any other producer, it's not in my DNA.
Also, since it's your claim that Wagoner is responsible for the headaches of the dealer force and that is what is holding back sales and market share, has he done something different with the Caddy dealers recently that allows them to sell so many more vehicles? No. Hmm, maybe it's the fact they now have good product to sell.
How much has sales at Suski gone up since you started this publicity bandwagon by the way?

The bet is on. Flint does have a few nice restaurants besides the usual chains. The Red Rooster still uses table clothes and serves fine food with excellent service. Either way, it will be good to met you and enjoy a fine dinner.
As to The Plan, please remember the first twenty points are what was released. There are many more which include things like product and warranty. IMO we need to stay focused on the issues and stop quibbling amongst ourselves. Don't we all share a common desire to see GM succeed? It's true, The Plan's first steps were revealed to shareholders, however, that was a private meeting of the owners of GM, not a public forum.
For the life of me, I can't understand the difficulty in honoring a simple request. I joined this forum looking to improve on the ideas while sharing info with fellow GM supporters. Having been betrayed by a few inconsiderate individuals doesn't spoil my attitude or feelings about the many who have contributed. Honestly, part of me just wants to cut it loose and have everyone join in here and make progress. I'm sure the debate would be interesting. Problem is, too much would be accessible to others who are out to rob us of our strengths, which include the knowledge and imagination which I know makes The Return possible.

Ok Mr. Jim "Buickman" Dollinger,
while I’m not a huge fan of car salesman, don’t agree Wag should "just go" and you have not received the best reception here I'll still keep an open mind. Where is your plan? I'd like to look over it as I'm sure many here would too.
I think you should keep an open mind too. Criticism here is some of the best criticism you can get on the internet on this topic.
Stay around I like to hear opposing thoughts.

To be fair, I have not read your proposal in it's entirety... I should do that.
If you would send it to me as well, I'd appreciate it.
My email addy is in my profile...
Re: The Big One GMAC Gone
Gladly, look for it this evening, thanks. I'll look forward to your opinion, good or bad. We can review each other's position, clear up any questions, and most likely come to an understanding as reasonable gentlemen.
Re: The Big One GMAC Gone
I've reviewed the "A Return To Greatness" email you've sent out. Upon reading, I immediately liked many of the ideas, but few to none were truely original ideas. I've grown up in the dealership environment, as has my father, and we can tell you first hand how elderly some of these idea really are. Again, not to knock anyone's ideas, but they are nothing more than anyone else in the dealership atmoshpere has already thought of, myself included. I would gladly explain further, but only if Buickman would like so.
Re: The Big One GMAC Gone
Please send me an email on each item you feel like discussing and I'll review with you why I feel they will improve share and by how much. I'll look forward to hearing your thoughts. I do not claim these are anything revolutionary, just simple basics that "work".

You've been messing around and arguing with a lot of very sharp people on here and have self praised very much, so are you game?

Funny, I read many auto publications and I don't recall any of them saying "all GM needs to do is fix the problems with the dealer network".

Re: The Big One GMAC Gone
A lot of these very sharp people you mention have responded and the discussions have been very indepth. Besides not posting the specifics for everyone to see, respondents have revealed a LOT of inside information that wouldn't ever have been posted here. You'd be amazed to learn what I have, so don't discount something you really aren't aware of. Perhaps that's why most of what's left being discussed here is by the stone throwers, the true efforts at improving GM are underway, just not under your nose. There is far more exchange happening via email than what you see here and it's almost completely positive in attitutde and done with respect. Not everyone agrees with The Plan in it's entirety, there's been convincing done both ways, but at least the debating is rational and has caused improvenments to the steps. For example, I've learned a considerable amount about the demise of Olds and have come to better understand product launches.
Caddy resurgence is due to the product, no doubt. They also cut back drastically on incentives and placed aspirational ads, getting off price.
Want to debate the points, send the email. You must agree to confidentiality, I'll trust your word, even though some have felt no remorse in betraying a confidence.
