Traditionally, the "Bulging Vein" was referred to as the "Ironing Board" on classic GTOs and Firebirds.

 

I like the car that jg linked to, looks like a GTO should. But leave off the 2 extra doors GM.

 

That rendering looks terrible, I wouldn't think that the actual GTO would look so non sporty. There is too many flat surfaces that are un-interesting.

I definatly see Mitsubishi in there, like a late 90's Diamante.

I'll take the current model over that one anyday.

The one thing I think it needs is a bigger decklid. It doesn't balance well; too much up front and not enough out back.

It always amazes me how you have such a strict interpretation of what a Camaro should be, yet you are so liberal with any Pontiac.

Put quad doors on a GTO and people will **** a brick. GTO is the original muscle car car....and though you may be able to streach the rational to justify it as a modern interpetation it just will not fly. Pontiac tried to say the current car was a modern interpretation and it did not fly (and all we are talking is boring styling). GM would be asking for negative press.

Also, what if we flip your argument. Since the Camaro has such a small backseat that is usually inhabited by kids...why not give it quad doors. Sure would open up the market for parents who want a sporty car but don't want to break their back witha car seat.. Of course people here would cry bloody murder. Dad wouldn't have to give the pony car up cause he had a kid. Well it is the same thing with the GTO.

I say just make a 4 door Grand Prix or something like that. I look at it this way...You will turn way more people off with a qaud coupe GTO than you would loose because it is only a two door.


As for the styling, the front seems deadon from what I have heard. There was an even better drawing of a yellow one in a mag a few months back. It was yellow and had a similar nose. If someone could post it, that would be awesoome.

 

It wouldn't really turn me off that much. As long as it wasn't an upright sedan, which I understand that it wasn't. GTO was never a 2+2 coupe either but...well.... here we are.
If I wanted a 2+2 coupe, I'd probably opt for the real thing, a Camaro or a Mustang. A GTO should be something else.

And who exactly is going to **** a brick? All those buying GTO's or all those not buying GTO's.

Anyway, this is all conjecture, I don't expect a new GTO anytime soon.

GTO is a coupe version of GM's intermediate RWD sedan..at least in terms of history.

In today's terms is is more a high performance, mid lux coupe.

My point is, if someone suggested make the Camaro a quad coupe you would freak out. Many people who hold the GTO close to heart would feel the exact same way.

The current GTO is called boring and it has been beat to hell in the press and by the old GTO faithful for it. If GM fixed the styling, but added a quad coupe setup it would be the same thing all over. The GTO is one of GM most hallowed names (right up there with Camaro)...you don't just add two doors and hope no one cares.

That being said the quad coupe is a nice idea...just don't call it a GTO. Maybe make a GTO Coupe and Grand Prix quad coupe. Then leave the traditional coupe to Buick.

 

I like it. It looks like a Pontiac to me. It also looks different than most other cars IMO. I don't get the Mitsu reference, if anything Mitsu stole Pontiac's look. Take a look at Pontiacs of years gone by. Grille/headlights looks right to me. (Oh yeah, I forgot, retro, ) Other than the nose I'd don't see a whole lot of retro cues. I like the fender extentions around the wheels. At least the rear wheels don't look too small (as compared to the current model), maybe the fender flares help out there. Sorry, but the current GTO is BORING, at least this makes a statement. I wonder how many current gen GTOs I've passed and didn't even know it. No doubt this would catch my eye. The 300 is a love it or hate it car, but at least you know what it is coming down the street. I don't like a lot of Chrysler designs, but face it, they are unique designs and Chrysler is gaining market share, hmmmm. I would consider buying a GTO if it looked similar to this A/W rendering.

 

DCX got away with turning the Charger into a sedan, GM can get away with a quad coupe GTO.


FWIW, I would consider a quad coupe Camaro, as long as it was not obvious when you look at it. My biggest complant about my 4th gen is how long the doors are. Quad coupe would really make it much more parking lot friendly.

 

Please GM, no quad "coupe". Even saying quad coupe is going to destroy the the meaning of coupe. I don't agree with Chysler calling their latest SEDAN Charger. Should have named it something else. GTO with 2 addtional doors similar to the RX-8 would be as far as I'm willing to go, and still be willing to buy it. Name it something else if it has 4 doors.

 

Camaro, GTO = 2 Door Car ! PERIOD !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!

No bull**** quad coupe, no equally egregious "coupe like" styling (Thank You Trevor Creed for that quality statement ) I am not going to rip and snort, since these are magazine articles about car that may or may not even exist as a styling exercise at this point. However, I want to make sure that anyone who reads this site to guage public reaction to these little internet tidbits understands MY position loud and clear, YMMV (but I hope not too much because I really don't want them foisting off some 4 door "coupe" on us like DCX did with the Charger (( I still think someone should send a 1969 318 Charger through their front lobby in protest ))
