Re: '08 GTO news....with pic!
The Ion has those rear doors and you can barely even tell they are there. Heck, I was about to buy the Redline, until I realized that gas mileage was not as good as adertised, oil changes were around $100.00 and that you should run premium gas. Kind of changed my mind.

Sounds like it'll hit the target that the DCX guys were shooting for with the Charger. A four-door that looks like a coupe, but the GTO may actually look like a coupe.

Oil changes around $100???????
Why?

Why?The most expensive oil change I've heard of is 80 bucks or so at some BMW dealers, but some of those BMWs have an oil capacity 2-3 times larger than most cars and only require oil changes every 15k miles using the oil they use at the dealership. Plus they clean your car up along with the oil change.

I don't remember if the salesman told me that, or if I read it online. I think I read it online. What I heard was that the oil filter is impossible to get to and that most mechanics will pull the supercharger(I think) off to get to the oil filter. Combine that with synthetic oil and there you go, $100.00. I don't remember all the details but it was something like that.

Apparently Saturn recomends 7 qts of 5w-30 mobile 1 for the Ion Redline. I haven't seen it, but people are saying that the filter is hard to get to. It shouldn't require removing the supercharger though!
Here are a couple quotes on the subject from saturnfans.com
What was the topic again? GTO??

A oil change requires NOTHING to be removed. It is quite easy, for my first oil change I use a lift but I suspect that I could put the car on ramps and do it myself at home.
Get the requred socket size and extension reach under the hoses and it slides out really easily from the front/right side. Swap the filter and just slide it back in. It takes all of 2 minutes for this part once you do it once. I can post picture if you like.

It's really not that hard to get to. Just remove the bracket on the intercooler filler neck and reach under the supercharger. A long extension can get a socket on the filter cap from up top.
I've already done two oil changes on mine. It should be cake for anyone who is at least somewhat mechanically inclined.

I could have lived with the oil and changed it myself. But, the killer was the gas. I don't know why I was thinking I could run regular. Heck, I could live with paying for premium if it got good enough mileage to justify it. But, I drive a LOT for work and this was going to be my new work car. Most people report getting under 30 mpg with this thing, a lot closer to 25.
I get 26 and sometimes a bit better from my 93 S10. And its paid for.
