Hey brent,

That is REALLY cool of you to take pictures of the process and share them.

Approximately how much extra are you paying for the repaint ? We are in a similar situation and now I am tempted to go electron blue.... or a repaint of the entire car with Onyx Black again.

Cool

I just uploaded a few more pics for today! They are moving right along and using a LOT of paint in the process. LOL! They're needing to use 8 to 9 coats as compared to the normal 3 coats. They are really loving this tint based Millennium Yellow. LOL!

He's giving me a deal on the change of color. The paint job to yellow would cost around $4,000. It's hard to say how much just the paint job is costing me because I have deer damage I'm having fixed as well. But, I did ask him how much, without damage, he would typically charge to paint a car and change the color and he told me around $4,000 or maybe a little less depending on type of car. He charges, usually, an additional $1,000 to change colors and most of his paint jobs are about $3,000 so total is around $4,000. I'm not one to do things half assed and I'm just not satisfied with a $1,500 or $2,000 paint job or a color change where they don't even take the doors off... I'm sure you know what I mean!

Electron Blue sounds very interesting!

Nope, they didn't use the booth for the panels which are hanging up in the pictures. They wet down the floor with water first. Actually, I don't care where they paint it so long as it looks good when they are done. They know what they are doing and wouldn't paint it like that if they knew it wouldn't come out ok. They don't want to waste their time and they know I won't accept anything less than an excellent paint job.

Our local Chevy dealer has a who knows how expensive paint booth but it is state of the art... best you can get. I wouldn't let those bozos paint my car unless it was an extreme beater and they were doing it for FREE. I've seen some KILLER paint jobs done in an open shop. It has more to do with the painter than the facilities which they use

Thumbs up

Taking the car apart to paint it? Wow, they're really going all out, aren't they? It's better they do it that way. I've seen some paint jobs where it's just the outside painted, then you open the door and the doorjambs are a different color:blah:

I really like that picture of the project LT1 in there too. But for Godsakes man, BUY SOME HEADERS FOR THAT ENGINE!!!

LOL! That's EXACTLY what I commented on! Chuck, the owner of the shop, said, "Hey, I just give them what they want."

Brent,

Awesome job so far. I do like that Yellow... A friend did a S10 with that yellow and a Purple Pearl, looked really cool.

I hope everything turns out good... Personally if I were to get my car painted, I'd have it done it a booth. I've had paint jobs done out in the open like that, and no matter what something always ends up in the paint. It's just Murphy's law. Plus I know people in the business, and everyone of them says for the best possible finish do it in a booth. Although like you said the people that do the work and paint the car have to know what they're doing no matter what. That's 3/4 of the quality.

Good luck Brent.

Mike

Yeah, I'll admit that I was a bit shocked to see them hanging out there in the open like that when there is a booth right there. But, they know what they are doing and know that if there is crap in the paint they'll be re-doing it. So, I didn't say anything because I'm definitely not going to tell this guy how to do his job. He knows what I expect and how he gets there I don't care. I would have expected him to paint everything in a booth but so long as they come out good, that's all I really care about

I did look pretty close at the stuff hanging up and I didn't see anything wrong so I suppose so far so good!
