Cam install question?
Cam install question?
I'm planning on installing my cam with 4-6 deg retarded ( to move the rpm band up a little) how will this effect cyl pressure? and what more will it effect?
Engine is a blown superram engine 415 cui..........
It already has a +5 deg advance in it so I'm installing it "straight" up..............

if you retard the camshaft ..you will definetly lower effective cylinder pressure at lower RPM range and lower cranking psi
224 dur @ .050" looks a little small for blower/cid engine size you have..so retarding cam might help you out depending on your gas octane and blower boost psi
it depends also on how much converter/stall and rear gear ratio you run (car weight)
trial and error
don't forget to check exhaust valve-to-piston clearance
making a retard move like that will loose approx .005+" per deg on exhaust per cam phase movement
