Need Help with cam swap!

Need Help with cam swap!
So I rebuilt my engine two months ago and I installed an advanced induction cam in it but I think it is out of time because I have a very bad no start condition. There is gas and spark I checked already and when it fires up it pings and sometimes when it doesn't start it shots smoke out the intake. My question how to get the timing right on an aftermarket cam? When I installed it all I did was align the two dots together the one on the cam gear and crank gear did I do it right?

Re: Need Help with cam swap!
How to index the Opti depends on the year of the car. But you appear to not want to provide that info. See why it's important to have that info up front?

Re: Need Help with cam swap!
Sorry I don't know the exact code I lost it in my old phone but the opti was indexed properly I'm just stuck as to what it can be because I've pulled the spark plugs and there's a lot of spark. What I did notice after I tried to start it was a lot of fuel on the speak plug as if it's flooded. The car had been working fine I even took it to the track and ran a 12.8 so I'm so confused as to what it can be. Could the valves be adjusted wrongly?

Re: Need Help with cam swap!
If the Opti is not indexed correctly to the cam there will be lots of spark but it will be at the wrong time.... out of time, exactly as you indicated you thought the problem was in your first post.
I've been on this site for 16 years now, and you would not believe the number of people who have "sworn" they installed the Opti correctly, only to find out after pulling it off, that they indexed it wrong.
Are you sure you got the dots correct on the timing gears.... per the guidelines on Shoebox's site?
What brand is the Opti, and is it possible the rotor screws have come loose - very common problem? That would cause the spark to be out of time.
The only code for an injector fault is DTC 18.... does that ring a bell?
Yes, if the valves are not adjusted correctly, you could have combustion backing into the intake manifold or blowing out of the exhaust.

It ran fine AFTER the cam install? Or only BEFORE the cam install?

well i think i did all those things correctly but this is my first lt1 rebuild so not sure. i think i might just take it to a good mechanic soon i give up on it.
the opti it has is a chandler motorsport from ebay.
yes it is shooting combustion back into the intake idk i might just take it apart again thanks for the help i really appreciate it!

Re: Need Help with cam swap!
i also forgot to add that once the car was starting to go out it would sputter really bad when i would floor the accel fast or quick as if it wanted to turn off and backfired. but once i let it go it would idle fine. if i pressed the accel at a constant pace it wouldn't sputter only when i would floor it quick or all of a sudden.

Re: Need Help with cam swap!
If it started and ran a 12.8 AFTER you installed the Opti, it's indexed correctly, and the timing gears are installed correctly. The Chandler unit may just be dying it's usual premature death.
