my camaro is a freak of nature...
i have a bone stock 92 z28. which according to various magazine articles and peoples opinions on this board and various others my car should get beat by most of the later 87+ 5.0 mustang Gt's however i have never lost to a 'stang.
ive raced 3 GT's since i got the car. one was a convertible which i beat. another was a automatic and i also beat him. but today i raced a friend of mine from work who has a 92 GT 5.0 with headers, exhaust and MSD ignition and its 5-speed. but we raced twice, once from a roll and once from a stop and i beat him both times by about a fender.
My car is the dual cat model with 4 wheel discs but i wouldn't think the dual cats would make that much of a different. what is the deal? is there a chance that i have the g92 axle or something special like that or am i just getting lucky?

Are you sure that the previous owner had nothing else done to it?
In my case, the guy that used to own my car thought it had a 5.0 in it (which it did factory) but then I ran the casting numbers and came to find out that it was, in fact, a 5.7. The owner BEFORE him had swapped in a 5.7

coming from a 305 tpi owner, there aint no way someone is running 13's in a completely stock 305 camaro. By completely stock I'm talking STOCK. STOCK exhaust, STOCK prom, etc. NO WAY.

Those LX 5.0 trunk models can be trouble though.

Re: my camaro is a freak of nature...
I could have sworn the 5.7L cars were outrunning the GT's. OR it may have been the Formula....I've always been into those - stock a 1995 mustang GT couldnt beat my 1988 formy... I WOuld bet it would easily beat the LX series as well. MY 1989 Formula is even faster than the 1988. Anyway the 5.7L cars pretty well dominated the Mustangs.
But im not winning any competitions with this sticky keyboard....

1 was 100% stock he also busted out a 1.8 60' and the car had like 60,000km on it,
other guy had headers, not cat and a flowmaster, fresh motor with a balance job
both 5L, 5 speed, 3.45 rear
I run 93mph in a 1/4 and my car with me and stereo weighs 4000# and has 200,000km with 3.08 gears and flowmaster
which is a easy 14.5 if I could get traction, sportlines in a vert makes for some brutal wheel hop
we also run at mission raceway, 1 of the closest tracks to sea level in the world,

Going a full second quicker than my 350 powered car did in stock trim is a little hard to believe.
about 30hp difference, and the 305 doesn't have the torque to be backed by an auto
plus 305 autos got 2.73's for the most part, these guys are running 3.45
and they weight about 3250 without driver

Re: my camaro is a freak of nature...
Ugh, I absolutely hate these arguments in this forum. Someone ALWAYS claims their friends 305 TPI T5 car with 225hp and 295tq was running in the 13's STOCK. Unless they cut a 1.6 60' on the Cooper Cobras with paper air filter and stock exhaust I won't even give credit to a stock 305 in the 13's. Hell, stock LT1 cars were low 14 cars with a few cracking into the high 13's, and thats not an outlandish claim because everyone knows that they came with quite a bit more power than the L98 and surely much more power than the LB9 cars.
Anyway, you all know my stance on this. Stock 305 TPI cars would never in a million years crack 13's. My AFR195, StealthRam, 355 hit 13.5 this year @ 101. I did have 3 broken lifters and a blown head gasket though so it wasn't running at full potential. But even still, I spent most of the year running 13.7-13.9 @ 99mph. The dyno before the runs showed 242RWHP and 295RWTQ. Show me a stock 305 capable of those numbers and I'll concede to a stock 305TPI in the 13's. (My car weighed 3580# with me in it - 6' 200lbs, 1/4 tank of gas.)
