battery relocation/ground effects problem HELP!

okay im re-routing my battery so that i can put it in the trunk. The battery has to be on the passenger side but the problem is that the exhaust runs right down that side. Sending the wires down the drivers side and back accross doesnt make sense and im not sure if id have a long enough wire (itd be close). The best idea i could come up with is to route the wire by the front wheel well, on the inside of the ground effects, and through the rear wheel well into where the spare tire is supposed to be (the tires was missing when i bought it so this seems like a logical place to put it). The only problem is i want to put some of the wire mounts inside the ground effects so the wire doesnt float around in there but i cant get the damn ground effects off. I unbolted all of the screws underneath and by the door but its still stuck on at either end where the larger piece is (ie by the iroc logo and same place on other end of it). I think on the end of it by the back wheels its just a pin and i might have it mostly off but i cant figure how to get the front part off for my life. please help me i absolutly cant figure it out and cant find the thing for the ground effects in my service manual.

Something that might require more work, but have you thought about maybe drilling a hole in your firewall and running it on the inside underneath your carpet. It would be protected from the elements that way. but it would require you do raise the carpet and find a place to attach it to the floor so that it doesn't rub a worn spot and ground out. It might be possible to run it underneath the console then under the rear seats and around to the back. Just a thought.

well the thought was considered and dismissed. not completly sure why it was dismissed but it was. I'm starting to think more and more that that might be a very good idea. Anyone else have any other ideas?

well yay for doing everything the hard way. The easy solution being what i just went to my car and figured out. Drill hole in fire wall. Remove plastic where edge of carpet meets the door. Lift carpe and put the freaking wire under there. There are plastic pieces that run the length of the interior of the car and they actually end with an oppening to the spare tire portion of the car. The only disheartening thing is im starting to realize the massive amounts of cheap plastic that are actually in my car.

I think by far thats the best way of doing it but does anyone have a better sugestion?

just make sure that when you screw the plastice piece back down you don't run your screw thru your positive wire. Will cause all kinds of headaches....OUCH it bit me again, why is my battery not keeping a charge, your friends hair sticks up constantly and other wonderful things.....

lol ill keep that in mind. I think when its buried under the carpet all the screws are far enough away it shouldnt be a problem actually i havent looked at it again yet but i might actually be able to use some of the holes for the screws to screw down the clamps for my wire. never know either way this seems like the best idea. And the wire i have is so thick i dont think i could go through it if i tried. or at least i sure hope not the wire set (comes with all of the attachments) cost me 200 bucks canadian.

I have mine running under the carpet on the pass side. I am using 0/2 gauge.

I have the wire exiting through the ECM bulkhead connector behind the pass side kick panel and up the fender into the engine bay.

if you still want to run it in the ground XF, pry off the IROC emblem at the front, there are 1 or 2 screws under it, at the rear, you need to remove the sail panel and speaker in the car on that side and then reach down inside the panel and remove the nut on the GFX

Id rather route the wire outside because its a summer car so no salt to worry about and id like to be able to route wires on the inside if i ever decide to put in a stereo system. I sent kandied a pm asking where he put the wires on the outside but if anyone has tips for routing the wires on the outside please let me know

i sent the wire thru one of the holes by the spare tire and then tucked into the wheel well then i have sub frame connectors on mine and i ran the wire thru the the middle of the sub frame. but i covered the wire with loom so it will not rub and ground out. and up inside the fender to the engine compartment. and thats it works great.

you put the battery in the trunk due to the fact that your engine is so heavy it moves some of the weight away from your engine compartment. It just makes your car a little more balanced out you just have to make sure that you put the battery on the passenger side because when you get on the gas the car torques a certain direction forcing more weight onto the drivers side there for you need to balance it out. I think thats some of the thinking of having a large portion of the exhaust/ a/c etc on the passenger side

The down side of doing this is that it creates a strain on your battery and Alt. If you do this you will want a better than average battery and a larger than stock alt. Otherwise things will get a lil hot. The wires will really protest having to carry the volts thru such long stretches.
