Electrical/ starting issue

Weird problem here.

When I open my door to get in, all of the lights and other electrical components that correspond to opening the door are in working order. The second I turn the key to engage the starter, all power cuts out (lights go off, stere shuts down off, etc). In order to start the car, I have to lift up the battery while someone turns the key.

I believe the problem here lies somewhere within the cables but I wanted a second opinion before I throw parts at it. Battery is less than 2 years old. The battery gauge shows the battery is charging normally while the engine is running. Everything acts normal once the engine is running.

Sounds like one or both battery cables are defective. Try moving each cable while the lights and heater fan are on. See if one affects the light or noise the most.

Did you check for heavy corrosion at the battery terminals?

Re: Electrical/ starting issue

It takes far less amperage to power a dome light and dash lights than it does to crank over a engine. That would explain why the componets fail when you hit the key. I agree with Gary and Fred. Sounds like a classic bad cable connection.
