it was LT, I had a 76 LT when I was 16 (My First Camaro)

Jason don't get the wrong idea...I wish the car all the luck and wish it never went away.

And the first totaled v-6 around here i may try to get my hands on and tub it up or something....its just too much of a change for me right now. I still think 3rd gens were the best styled and the 70 1/2 i may end up liking it 10 years from now.

My cousin is an engineer at GM. There IS NOT going to be a Z28 package, but he said that there may possible be an equivalent. I do not know if it is going to be a package, it may just be an RPO code rather than a full blown package. The SS will happen though about six months after the base models arrive.

I don't understand the part about an "equivalent" package... You're saying SS will be on top, and all V8 models and V6 models below that are just...nameless? They wont call base V8s or anything Z28 to separate them from the v6 engine packages? Why didn't you say he was an engineer at GM when I questioned his credentials twice yesterday? What type of engineer is he? Did he mention who he heard this from?

Sorry, I find this part EXTREMELY hard to believe (surprised at the confidence too)....unless you just mean first year there won't be a Z28 package, and they're saving the name for bigger and better after a year or so...

I'm not ruling anything out though...as we have seen you never know what someone has heard/saw/read/etc.

Please be more specific.... what type of engineer is he? How long has he had this position? Is he in a position to know anything about the Camaro, and if so, why would he tell you? Tell us EXACTLY who your source is and EXACTLY what he told you.

Most of this info we get from "my uncle's cousin who married my brother's aunt in-law 2 years ago then adopted a 3 year old mongoose from someone who was once a floor sweeper at GM" is about as usefull as a dixie cup on a sinking ship.

Most of the time, the people can't answer exactly what position he holds and all that type of information because they shouldn't be even telling their nephews the information they do in the first place.

Like Guy said, there maybe an equivelant to the Z28 that just isn't called Z28.

I know one thing for sure, if your cousin was an engineer for GM he has violated the confidentiality clause in his job description and you have cost him his job! Nobody in GM can say anything about future products publically without be fired! I'm going to raise the BS flag on this one.

Not talking about this topic, just a generalization....

..this car won't be everything to everyone.... there will be compromises
Some may or may not like them... but remember, the car has to sell to masses to be a hit..

...not just the 'I know whats best-internet know it alls'

With all due respect to your cousin, I'll wait and see if Fbodfather responds and see what he has to say.

All I DO know is that the 'Z28' moniker has ALOT of history with the Camaro, and IMO, Chevrolet will offer a new Z28.

GM is a HUGE company. Just because someone is an engineer there, doesn't mean they know everything that's happening with the Camaro.

Besides, just a guess, but I'd expect the GM Performance Division to develop a Z/28 version.

Let's give the kid a break and assume that he his telling the truth. Perhaps his cousin, the engineer, is only privy to first year production information and doesn't have any idea what's in store for year two.

Okay, Okay.
Let us, for the sake of argument, say that there is no 2009 Z28.

Let us say that there is going to be a 2009 Camaro. Let us further say that the 2009 Camaro will indeed have an engine and suspension package that will be designed to outperform the 2002 models.

Is that not exciting enough in of itself? Whether or not they call it a Z28 will be immaterial so long as it makes tire smoke and gives the driver get sore cheek muscles from all the smiling they do.
