The Sad News
I guess in one way the 02 ZL-1's were close to their bretheren...just not near as spartan. They used SS trim and options which were used on the original ZL-1's. Basicly what happened with the ZL-1 was that the options on the car were left up to the buyer. Almost every car was ordered with leather interior deluxe rearview mirror, and things of that nature because of who bought them. If I had to pick one of the cars that really represented a true ZL-1 it would have been Mike's car Grumpy's Toy(69 I think?)
That car was a drag car through and through out.
At the same time I guess you would also have to understand that at the time the ZL-1 was built having 427 especially one with a C5R block was about as close to a ZL-1 status engine without actually calling it ZL-1.
Either way I love the cars, and I really hope that GM makes them again on a large enough scale for us consumers to buy and not the super rich.
if they do away with the Z28 on the camaro im buying a new dodge challenger then..Because thats plain stupid ..Go ahead and lets not call it a camaro eather ..Who gets paid to think for this company anyway .Probibly some one that never owned one im sure..
Who said anything about them doing away with the Z-28 as a name? Not to mention the fact that who cares what they call it as long as it is a Camaro. I would rather have a Camaro less a Z-28 rather than a Z-28 name and no Camaro....not like they would get rid of it any how.
I would count on Chevy doing away with the name, but in the end what does it matter?
My cousin's friend's co-worker's boss' niece has a boyfriend whose dad is an engineer for Tupperware and he has an engineer friend that works at GM and that guy works in the SUV division but he said there is 0% chance of the Z28 coming back and the Camaro "R29Zulu" will be top dog. I asked how he knew and he said he heard a "tinking" sound on the pipes in his building and he deciphered it as morse code from Bob Lutz himself that there would be no Z28 and the R29Zulu would be the new Camaro king. It will have a supercharged 8 liter with 2,000 HP, a 12 bolt rear, Allison 10 speed transmission, get 50 mpg, and MSRP starts at $10,000.
My cousin is an engineer at GM. There IS NOT going to be a Z28 package, but he said that there may possible be an equivalent. I do not know if it is going to be a package, it may just be an RPO code rather than a full blown package. The SS will happen though about six months after the base models arrive.
Engineers aren't always the most informed people.
