Arrow Re: Possible first glimpse of new Camaro motor.

GM could make a smaller displacement engine, but they would have to come out with a smaller version of those 3v heads then which means even more money. Since GM only announced the 6.3L and GM's trend is for bigger motors I think the chances of a smaller motor with 3v heads isn't gonna happen when the LS2 is cheaper and more reliable.

Now, you're right, the LS1 motor cost more than the LT1, but the LS1 was to be GM's next generation gen III small-block and the costs were spread out over many models (F-Body, Vette, GTO which Holden makes, SSR, all of GM's truck line). GM has more than made up the development costs of the LS1/LS6 and even the LS2 and LS7 are much closer in design to the LS1 than the LT1, so GM saved money with the LS2 and LS7 designing costs because the LS1/LS6 layed the ground work for the next gen IV small-blocks (LS2/LS7).

This 6.3L 3V hardly seems like GM's next generation small-block since the gen IV was introduced in 2005. It looks more like a limited-run engine in a few models that have high costs which isn't Camaro.

Re: Possible first glimpse of new Camaro motor.

i dont see why they couldnt use that head on a 6.0 block instead of a 6.3. also. they could use the same head design threw the trucks and corvettes and gto, and other gm products. nothing is saying there limiting them selves to just the camaro on this. the ls7 will most likly be dead by then any way. what happend to that artical about a blue devil 600hp vett possibly? and also the fact could be mad the ls7 is an extreamly expesive engine as said many times on this board and yet they still put it in just a few corvettes. im not saying that this will deffinetly be the engine but i saying i also wouldnt rule it out.

I'm wondering something. Is it really a 6.3L? I'm expecting a 6.4L actually. LS7 block with the LS2 crank.

Considering this engine is still in developement, I wouldn't be surprised if those #'s, were a bit lower than a production version will be!! I doubt they would show their hand, so early in the game.

Cool Re: Possible first glimpse of new Camaro motor.

I was reading past threads and I saw more than once that the LS2 will be discontinued because GM needs to meet increasing fuel economy and emissions requirements for 08, so the LS2 engine assembly plant will switchover to other engines in fall 07.

The interesting thing is the 08 Corvette will be getting a new motor:6.2L 415-425hp, L92 heads with the L92/L76 car intake which GMPP is starting to sell now. GM is still calling it the LS3.

So that means the 08 Corvette's base engine will be in the new Camaro!

Anybody have any new info on the LS2 being discontinued after 07?

Next time you're near an 03/04 Cobra, take a peak underneath and look at the exhaust and you'll see its a small diameter system with a lot of bends. Too restrictive for any engine, let alone a supercharged engine.
You got to that before I did. Apparently the new GT-500's are just as mod friendly as we are finding out every day.

The oversized bore in the LS7 would be impractical for most applications, especially those with boost.
