when can i put deposit on camaro? is it too
Re: when can i put deposit on camaro? is it too
Any dealer would probably be happy to take your money now, but you're probably a couple of years too soon. I wouldn't worry about it until they have a better idea about when produciton will start, and what the dealer allocations will be. Find one that will give you MSRP.

You will still have to pay whatever the dealer's charging, but what the heck?
(If a few degenerate dealers are scalping 20 grand to get on a list, and people are silly enough to ask, then I'm silly enough to take their money.... and they're still getting a bargain in the process!

Yeah, something like a Term Deposit works too. You put the money in and gain compounding interest over a set period like 2 or 3 years. If you have the finances to put a sum away and forget about it for that time, you'll be better off when you can use it again. That way, you'll gain a substantial amount of interest over what a basic savings account would pay and you'd have more to spend on the options you don't need but would be nice to have.
Re: when can i put deposit on camaro? is it too
no dealer should be taking deposits. However, many of them are starting a waiting list.....so you might want to go to your local Chevy dealer and ask about being put on a list.........

I looked into what my local dealer would try to pull and the guys seemed very eager to take my money. One of my buddys is dating the owners daughter so I have a pretty good connection there. I basically told the owner that I wouldn't commit any money until I get an MSRP and a guarentee that I can get everything I want, ordered how I want, rather than something the dealer orders to sit on the lot. He agreed and is planning to speak to his guys about taking money for something that is still a few years out.

I contacted one of my volume dealers the Friday after the announcement to discuss lists, deposits, etc. and decided to give them $1000 deposit for the first spot on their order list. Yes, it's early, yes, the car won't be out for at least 2 years, yes, I could have put that money into something else, but in my area, this is SOP. You want on the list, you put up a little cash. I had no problem with it as I am going to be able to get the car I want, the way I want it. If that means losing a small amount of interest over the next two years, so be it. I'm hording a significant downpayment away anyway, so there's where my savings will be made.
Also, the deposit is 100% refundable if by chance the car is out of my price range, or any other events prevent me from being able to follow through with the purchase. Oh, and we are dealing on MSRP only! There will be no mark-up for demand like the Ford boys are doing on the Shelbys.

2. Scott just said that dealers shouldn't be taking deposits yet & I'm sure every dealer here will tell you the same thing.
3. No, it's NOT Standard Operational Proceedure.
4. It's your cash. But what do they say about a fool & his money?
5. Ok, I'll call you that. I think you've earned it!!!

Sometimes man, I really wonder about you. Are you jealous of other people who can put the money down or what? You sure seem awfully concerned about another persons 1000 bucks. Who are you to call anyone a fool for what they do with their money? Just because you wouldn't do it doesn't make it wrong, just different. Who give's a ****?
First, dealers ARE taking deposits, it's happening. Whether anyone here or inside GM likes it or not isn't the point unless they plan to try and do something about it.
Second, it is SOP. It's called a free market. You want something before someone else, you buck up the cash, put your money where your mouth is and give them some to get it. Maybe he doesn't care how much it's going to cost? It's not like we don't know roughly what it's going to cost anyways.
Now, that being said, if the person doesn't have an agreement spelled out with their dealership when they make a deposit which includes protection for them like: 100% refundabilty of the deposit, guarantee of MSRP, know what position of the waiting list they're on, ability to spec the car out the way they want to, then the deal might not be as good as one for someone who had those things spelled out. It's still their money though, right? Maybe spending it on hookers and blow would be a better plan?
Oh, and what's the incentive for a dealership to create a list that doesn't have some sort of money tied to it? Any retard can go up to a dealership and tell them they want to buy an new Camaro and to put them on their list.
"Talk's cheap, it takes money to buy rum."

Re: when can i put deposit on camaro? is it too
I personally wouldn't put anything down yet, but then, I'm not in a rush to be the first person with a 5th gen.
Scott already posted GM Corporate went after dealers that were ebaying "waiting list" slots, and made them stop, so you know what GM's take is on that practice.
If someone does decide to put money down to be on a waiting list, I would be ABSOLUTELY SURE you get everything in writing from the dealership prior to forking over the cash, most importantly that the money is 100% refundable if the buyer wants to back out.
As far as the flaming.... unfortunately it seems to be common practice here with some. I dont like it. It's not what "FCar comraderie" is supposed to be about. It's one thing to have fun with folks you know, it's another thing to outright flame strangers. It seems it's more of the latter than the prior.

Re: when can i put deposit on camaro? is it too
I really don't understand the rush to be on a list, its not like the Z06 or Shelby where they're only gonna make 5 or 10 thousand of them. Camaro will be a 100,000 car a year deal. No one should have any trouble finding one. '05 Mustang GTs were all over the place around here. Finding one at MSRP was the bigger challenge.
