But wasn't that in the context of discussing the LS2, L76 and LS7 as potential engines for the V8 Camaros?

I can back him up as the L76 is not an option at this time.

The Camaro will have a 400+ HP LS3 for the SS.

The Z/28 will have around 550 HP. [Do you really think Lutz would prevent them from topping the Shelby in HP on a limited car?

The V6 will be ba very potent engine, plans at one point peg it at or over 300 HP. I am unsure if they backed off of this.

You also will have Auto and Manual versions of each. Just because the LS does not have DOD now does not mean it won't later.

Guy knows much of what I know and he is on track!

You could say they charged a premium for the L98, LT1 and the LS1 in the Corvette as opposed to the Camaro too.

I know you keep insisting that the LS3 will somehow be an expensive Camaro option. However, your only support for this is the price setup for the G8. 4 Door Aussie imports aside. The history of the Camaro and Vette engines are usually very similar. Both cars are performance oriented and GM is looking to keep costs down so it makes the base Vette engine very attactive for use in the Camaro and 04-06 GTO for that matter. Not to mention there is no need for 2 V8's in the Camaro lineup (Top model not withstanding) with a less than 50 rated HP difference. GM is also focusing on ease of manufacturing and more engines mean more configurations and costs and potential for quality issues.

We'll find out in Sept. but if recent history and the rumors that have been swirling seem to point to the LS3. Wouldn't you rather have the LS3 as the standard V8 than the L76?

umm, do you even know the history of the F-Body? The L98 WAS a premium, the standard Z28 had the 305 which was NOT found in the corvette. Im sure GM is smart enough to see (by looking at the mustangs sales) that the L76 will perform up to the standards (and even beyond, believe it or not) set by the cars in the "base V8" price range and its VERY EASY to see that people are more than willing to pay more for a higher HP alternative/premium. They wouldnt even have to develope another supercharged V8, just toss the LS3 and charge $38000 . The difference in power between the L76 and LS3 will be very similar to the Challenger R/T and Challenger SRT's that it will also be competing against.

You think GM is actually gonna give us what we want? Get real. They wont even see what we think about what engine they have choosen. So what the other companys make cars that go fast, so what they actually tell the consumer what they are gonna do. Hey when you get your 400 FWHP Z28 and get waxed by that GT atleast you got your new camaro. Lets go GM get with it, dont SING it BRING it. Im tired of hearing how much im gonna like it, I wanna know if you can deliver.

As for the V8......The only thing CONFIRMED is we will NOT see the LS2 or the LS7. Everything else is 100% SPECULATION..... We SPECULATE it will be the L76 or LS3 for the "Base" V8 and we SPECULATE there will be "Top Dawg/GT 500 Fighter/Z28/ZR1/STFU... blah blah blah call it whatever you want" with 500+ HP.....but the truth is WE DON"T KNOW YET. We don't even know if there will be a "Top Dawg" at all....or if it will come out in a year or two later or ten after the base models.....

Duh, the point was the LS3 like the SBC's shared in the Vette and Camaro before it don't drive a premium cost. How GM markets the car drives the cost. Look back at the 4th Gens with the LT1 and LS1 as the only engines offered yet GM had the Z28, TA and Formula then the more premium WS6, SS and Firehawk etc.. (SLP LT4 and GMMG LS6 swaps not withstanding)
The only difference was trim and HP rating ~ intake-exhaust. GM doesn't need the L76 and LS3 to charge a premium for the SS or Z28 model they can just change the HP rating like what is seen from the 402 HP LS3 in the G8 GXP to the 430/436 rating in the C6. The Camaro doesn't need the L76 in it's lineup but it does need the LS3.
Your missing another point why use 2 V8's when 1 will work just fine. Again the top performance model is out of this. Why have more complex manufacturing process with more development, certification and build costs for nothing.
One of the big reasons why GM has done well with the new Malibu is they have simplified the combinations available and that helps cut down on overall costs and helps to bring build quality up.

..charge $38k for a Camaro with the LS3...there goes affordability...I don't see it happening...but if we get the L76, then ok. I won't be able to afford $33k, let alone $38k...I'm still looking for 400 hp at an affordable Mustang-like price...BECAUSE that's what we've been told by Scott (not the 400 hp necessarily...but we know darn well that that the Camaro...even the entry V8 won't be out-powered by the G8 GT)...Price is going to be King for the Camaro...no one can deny that...even if the interior is Cadillac quality, the suspension is the best you can get, and the engines are just what we want....but is not priced like we've been told to expect...we all know what the fate of the Camaro will be...

so let's just trust that since WE know that...GM knows it! I mean...they are a multi-billion dollar automotive company that's been around for many, many years...they must know something...

That just seems awkward, it feels like it should be the other way around.

Its wierd like if Ford would have had a GT500 with a 300hp 4.6 and a GT with a 500hp 5.4

if that were the case, affordability would be with the L76 model.

400HP at a mustang price when even the 361HP L76 makes more than 50more HP than the Mustang GT? That doesnt make ANY business sense, good business sense says they charge more for the LS3, NOT because it costs more, but just because of the fact that the extra power makes it more of a commodity. On top of that, its already been confirmed that the Camaro will be premium priced (cost more) compared to the Mustang.

you know darn well? hows this? And i never said the G8 GT would out-power the Camaro, hows that even possible if im proposing that they have the SAME engine?

pricing might be closer to KINGLY, its supposed to be more expensive (because its supposed to be a better built car with more features, ie IRS), i doubt itll cost a rediculous amount more but i dont think the $30,000 range is too far fetched for a base V8.

weve already been told that it will cost more. GM cant get by, by just building a faster car, Ford has proven with the mustang GT that, all you really need to SELL cars is make it competitive performance-wise plus styling that appeals to a broad range of customers, the previous F-Body was a compromise upon purchase, it was large on the outside compared to the inside, was awkward to get in and out of, had huge doors, a mountain of a dash board and lots of ammenities related to comfort that were severely lacking, but hey, it was faster.............then it died.
they cant take the same road again as the F-Body.

The F-Body failed before even though it was a faster car (except when compared to the cobra ) they cant follow the same formula of just building a faster car. The Mustang GT is an excellent model to follow in this segment, and its proof that HP itself wont sell the car. It would make more sense to offer the L76 as a GT killer and an LS3 model as a sort of "Mach 1" type upgrade or SRT8 fighter.

i dont know where everybody here got that the Z28 will be above the SS, maybe i missed it, but in the first gen camaro the Z28 was the top of the line car (with a smaller engine even) and the SS was an upgrade from the RS i believe. It doesnt make sense to go back to that anymore though, since all the top of the line Chevys have been associated with SS, to change that would probably just cause confusion.

I don't know if you have heard this line. "Any Chevy can be an SS but only a Camaro can be a Z28". (Z/28)
We know there will be an SS and a Z28 in the 5th Gen lineup but only GM knows how they will be marketed. They will pick the strongest brand identity to the Camaro as the top performance model. I have a feeling it will be Z/28 and I highly doubt there will be any confusion once the car is unveiled.
