G8 coupe engine line-up same as Camaro?

http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do...topanel..3.*#2

They state that the G8 coupe GT would have the 361 hp engine and the G8 coupe GXP would have the 402 hp engine. Could this be a hint to the 2 V-8 engine line-up for the Camaro?

I hope the top level V8 has closer to 500 hp.

What all of a sudden Edmunds has developed credibility?

Edmunds still believes the Camaro and G8 are on the same platform and that the Camaro will be built in Australia. So its easy to see why they would come to such a conclusion.

There will be no "base" V8. The "SS" will get the 400+hp LS3 and several months later the "Z28" will get a supercharged derivative of such (assuming the "Z28" survives the media-hyped CAFE scare) pushing north of 500hp.

I agree with you about the SS getting the LS3 and the Z/28 getting the LS8.

Isn't the G8 on Australian Zeta and the Camaro is on NA Zeta? Similar? Yes. But still different.

I hope you're right. When its my time to get a new car, I hope its between a 550hp Camaro and a 430hp Corvette.

I hope I'm right too. (This is the conclusion I have reached based upon information off this website.)

Nope.

The 361 horse V8 is the L76 version of the LS engine used by GM-Holden of Australia. Exclusively. Any vehicles assembled by Holden in Australia use this engine.

The 400 or so horse is the LS3 engine used by GM-North America. It is going to be phased into Holden's cars over the next couple or few years.

L76 is not.... repeat, not ending up in the Camaro. This is pure internet speculation that turned into rumor on some websites when the G8 was introduced that continues to this day.

For all intents and purposes, there will be only 1 Camaro engine, an updated version of the LS3. As far as we 99% of ACTUAL potential V8 Camaro buyers, that's pretty much the extent of it.

The 2nd V8 engine will likely be a low production, comparatively high priced model pushing horsepower in the Shelby GT500 range

The other Camaro engine by all accounts is a V6..... A pretty high powered V6.

G8 coupe renderings are gorgeous!!! I've never been much of a sedan guy so this looks a lot better than the G8 sedan to my eyes.

I would have to agree just based on what engines the Camaro and Vette have had in the past. It would seem right that GM would only use the LS3 in the Camaro and rate it below the power of the Vette. That's how they have done it in the past.
I never saw the logic in using the L76 or any other lower performance V8 than the LS3 for some base model V8 Camaro. It's not worth the effort when the LS3 will do everything that V8 Camaro buyers want w/o really any added cost and certainly no added manufacturing complexity than with a 2nd V8.

And thank God for that! I was never able to understand the fixation some people seem to have with putting an L76 in the Camaro .
