Buying an SS or waiting for Z28?

For me it really depends on what the prices will be. I've got it in my head that I'll spend around $35K...I really don't want to spend $40K.

Sure, I'd like to have a S/C'd 500+ hp Z/28, but I wont break the bank to get it. I'm OK with an LS3 if there's a big price difference, I can always add mods to it if/when I need more power. As far as the wait goes...I'd rather not wait any longer unless the Z/28 is REALLY worth wait...I could always use the time to save some more $$ for a down payment.

I guess time will tell.

I won't decide exactly what car I want until:

1. I have enough money to even warrant considering purchasing such a car
2. I know exactly what the differences are between the two
3. I know what else on the market catches my eye
4. I have test-driven one of each

The only thing you guys have heard right now is that GM is looking at an engine down-grade to a turbo 4 and the V6 to make the sales and handle the CAFE issue.

I have a G8 GT and was surprised to here that GM is thinking of coupe within 3 years. Not to mention at making it a GXP line with the Corvette LS7 under the hood.

If that is the only difference (it won't be) than no, I'd use the money saved to mod the SS

2. How much would you be willing to pay over the “SS”?

$6-8k

3. How long will you be willing to wait?

2 years after the SS release, that will give me enough time to save up some cash and hopefully miss dealer mark-up

Discuss.

Probably buy the mid level Z28 and then trade it in for a top level SS when it comes out.

I want whatever the 400+ hp model is going to be. I'm going to be really disappointed if we end up with the 361hp L76.

I've built the GT Premuim as well a couple times. As I'd want it i always comes to approx. $33,000.

As long as the Camaro I want comes in under $35,000 I'll be happy. (What I want= midlevel 400hp V8 very well equipped)

Wont be able to make the decision until the specs are released, but more importantly, price.

That's with like every option it comes with

I also chose a manual (zero dollar option), the auto is like $900 or so.

Not interested in an "SS", the only Camaro I'll get is the 500+hp "Z28 (or whatever they call the "Bad-@***).

Being that we're not sure how much the "normal V8" will run, I can't say how much more I'd be willing to pay.

But I can say that the more it costs over a new "base" Corvette, the more likely I'll be to pass on the Camaro and instead get a used C6 Z06 or brand new C6 or C7 depending on the year.

I will not pay gas guzzler tax and I would strongly prefer a car that runs on regular fuel. Plus, 400HP is more than plenty for a daily driver and I expect it to get half-decent mileage too. If there's a gas guzzler tax on the Z28 then the fuel economy is also not high enough for me to consider it as a daily driver. (that last line is exactly the kind of thinking the feds want out of consumers...:: oh well, they got me)

I won't even consider the Z28 if its in GT500 price territory, which I expect it to be. Its about $10,000 more than I'm willing to spend. I'm expecting to spend around $35K for a well-equipped SS.

If the SS is everything it sounds like its going to be, I won't wait a bit.

Likewise...an L76 with <400HP would probably make me wait to see what Nissan has in store for the 2010/11 Z before I made my purchase decision.
