I'm getting a badass MF Z! My plan is to lease an SS the first year and trade it in on a Z when they come out. The trade-in value should be good because it will be a 2010 model in 2010!

The rest are not "factory" cars correct? Like the 5.4L Shelby GT500.

Even if you include the 5.4L cars, that's only 2 V-8's.
well three factory name plates with 2 motors and 1 modded. I think ss should be drop from the Camaro name plates as the z\28 and zl1 should take over in the lineup. Just like the vette does with the z06 and zr1.

If the car at the ring is the SS I will be buying that. I am not interested in a supercharged 500-550hp Camaro that will just sit in the garage. I will probably wait to buy the SS though anyway a year or two I want to make a large downpayment.

I was basing my costs compared to the Mustang. And don't forget that Chevy did say the Camaro would costs would be in the premium range of the Mustang. I would take that to mean no more than $2k when compared to the Mustang, but in return the fit and finish would be a greater degree better.

My plan is to get a well optioned base V8 (SS in this case) then in 2012 get an all options, top of the line anniversary edition.

Unhappy The Barrier Run

Riddle me this!? hahahahah

The only thing you guys have heard right now is that GM is looking at an engine down-grade to a turbo 4 and the V6 to make the sales and handle the CAFE issue.

All I'm hearing here is people wanting to go up! hahahaha which is all a big muddle for the time being. I have a G8 GT and was surprised to here that GM is thinking of coupe within 3 years. Not to mention at making it a GXP line with the Corvette LS7 under the hood. Why do you think they are waiting since the sedan platform is on a run already?

The GTO was killed in 2 years...... if sales and specs don't line up for the new Camaro, a demise will be evident. Vehicle runs in the past decade have shorten tremendously for the Makes.

Only well selling vehicles will have any run these days for there are too many barriers!

I just want an entry level V8 that can run on regular gas. I have zero need or interest in 500+ HP.

Buy a lightly equipped V6 'vert for roadtrips in 2010 ... keep the Solstice for autoX ... then merge the 2 into an Alpha Camaro to do both in 2015.

The entry level V8 is likely to be the LS3 or a motor largely related to it. It probably will run on regular just like the LS1 and LS3 do.

Well a 500-550 hp version definitely appeals to me, but I figure it will be rare and out of my price range. I'm most interested in and would be looking at buying whatever the affordable, 400+ hp level V8 is, I guess thats a SS. I have my fingers crossed that it is a an LS3 rated at higher HP than in the G8 GXP. I will be very disappointed if they have drasticaly crippled the non-Vette LS3s w/ a weak camshaft, etc though.

I'm still having a real tough time deciding between the Camaro and a used C5 Z06 or maybe regular C6 though. Guess we'll see what the price point of the SS is and how much I feel like spending on a Camaro when it's finally here.

I am not interested in a L76 350-360hp level Camaro though, as with it's just about guaranteed increased weight over the 4thgen that would offer zero performance improvement over my LS1 TA. I won't be buying a Camaro if the L76 is the best we get for the first year or so for the affordable (at/under $30k) V8 model. I will definitely buy a used Vette in that case.

Yes I would love to purchase a Z28 , but my income will keep me in a SS .

If things change , and if the Z28 was more than just an engine upgrade it would be reasonable to pay $5-7K more . Engine , the heavier duty T56 , half shafts , suspension , wheels and tires are what I would expect . In addition to a Recaro type front seats . The body can look the same .

If I were in a position to buy a Z , the wait wouldnt matter .

I just get the SS and have the option to mod it to Z28 in the future. Also doing that will save me on insurance.

If its only $2000 more which I know it won't but if it is I will get Z28. I want to put down atleast 20% on whatever model I choose to get.

The blown 5.4 in the GT500 is absolutely a "factory" motor.

Anyway....

If it is anything like the current GT500, no way. IMHO, that car is an over-priced bloated pig.

Zero on both for reason above.

In short, I'd rather have a much lighter (might be dreaming about the "much" part, but we'll see) N/A version of the Camaro.

That'll never happen.

I've thought about that for a while now and also as I was typing my response.

I don't know.

I'll have a better idea once the new car is out and I can kick the tires.

I suspect that the 5th gen will probably make for a nice street car regardless of how well I feel it actually executes being a "Camaro". I have serious doubts as to whether or not it will be able to replace my '96 as a "race" car though. Is being a nice street car enough for me to buy if I know a 6th gen more suitable to my tastes is coming? Right now I just don't know.

The only thing I can say for sure is that I can easily see myself purchasing a smaller, lighter 6th gen regardless of what I do with the 5th gen.
