Rolling the fenders?

I've got 18" Cragar SS's and they rub the inner lip of the fender pretty much every time I hit a bump, and it turns my tires into a scratched-up eyesore. What's the best way to roll up my fender's inner lip? Or should I just cut them off?

Re: Rolling the fenders?

There is a tool made by Chicane Sport that is designed for rolling the rear lip on the 4th gen f-bodies. I have an article somewhere where they rolled the lip on a 4th gen with this tool and it is a very informative article. If I can find it, I'll scan it for you. I think the tool is about $65.00, so it is pretty affordable. I have been checking into getting one to roll my rears also.

Check them out at www.chicanesport.com

Re: Rolling the fenders?

I have the Chicane "Jimmy" tool, and not too impressed with it. It can only grab about 2 or 3" of the lip at a time, so it doesn't end up very smooth. It can't grab the lip the closer you get to the ends of the fender arch. Can only bend the lip up at about a 45-degree angle, since that's as far as the tool can move. Finally, they recommend scoring the paint on the very edge of the fender, so if the paint "breaks", it doesn't chip all the way out to the outside edge of the fender. This pretty much insures the paint will chip completely off the rolled edge.

If I ever do it again, I think I'll try the baseball bat.

baseball bat for me.....why pay for something you can do perfectly yourself? Took an old louisville slugger, rolled about 1/4" of duct tape around the handle end. got a couple of buddies to sit in the hatch and rolled it up pretty nicely. I rolled them up almost parrallel. Too bad i dont have the 11" wide wheels anymore

One thing about the bat method, use a wooden bat, not aluminum, aluminum can mess up your fenders.

Euclid,
I used a fender-rolling tool, and it worked awesome. There is a guy in Austin who rents it out. Post on the Austin F-body board, and I'm sure someone can get you the information.
peace...
