Question about offsets

Are the offsets built into the rim or are they like spacers? Just wondering because i am looking for ZR1 17x11 rims for the rear and 17.9.5 for the front and i wonder what the offsets are supposed to be. If I find a set that lists different offsets then what I need does that mean I cant use those rims or are there ways around it?

Re: Question about offsets

Offset is "built into" the wheel when it is manufactured. It can not be changed. For the ZR1's, you need:

17x9.5 56mm offset

17x11 50mm offset.

The only other offsets you see would be:

17x9.5" 38mm offset

17x11" 36.5mm

Those wheels would be positioned a little too far toward the outside of the fender, but are preferred by some people.... just a matter of how much they stick out.

If the offset is too small, there is nothing you can do about it. You can not add a spacer. If the offset is too large, you could add a spacer to compensate, but that is not always a good idea.

Another possibility is the high $$$$ wheels like Fikse or HRE. These are 3-piece wheels, and you can alter offset by combining different selections of front and back "halves" of the wheel. Think in terms of $500-900 per wheel.
