Nitto Tire Pressure
Nitto Tire Pressure
Ok, I just replaced my 285/40/17 BFG KDWSs with 275/40/17 Nitto 555s on the front and 555R Drag Radials on the rear. I figured that despite the slightly smaller size (I really liked the bigger size, but they don't make the 555Rs in that size) that the Drag Radials would still hookup better, but I'm not seeing it
I always run max pressure stated on the side wall (44 psi on the KDWSs) but know the Drag Radials like low pressures. I'm down to 25 psi and still not impressed. I drive it ALOT on the highway, so 15 psi is too low. Anyone have any experience with these?

Re: Nitto Tire Pressure
Hard to believe the KDW's hooked at all inflated to 44psi. That's the maximum allowable pressure, required to support the maximum load rating of the tire. The tire is not loaded anywhere near maximum capacity on a 4th Gen, and should not require 44psi. I've run most of my tires at 32-36psi, and they have provided a good balance of tread wear and traction.
Currently running BFG 315/35-17 DR's. They hook very well at 30psi on the street. However, they do not hook well in cold weather, on cold asphalt, or with cold tread. I suspect that's what you are experiencing, unless you're living in the sun belt.
I would not run 15psi on the street. The center of the tread is going to cave in, causing excessive tread wear at the edges, and the excessive flexing will cause damage to the tire carcass. Will also reduce your fuel mileage.

Re: Nitto Tire Pressure
I just got Nittos put on today. I did a quick little burnout with them to see how much traction I got. The tires are at 35 pounds right now, I may drop them down to 22 on the street.

Re: Nitto Tire Pressure
25 lbs for street use, and 16lbs at the track works for me. There seems to be a small break in period in my opinion. At least a couple hundred miles if not more. And at the track it seems that the people that tell you to really heat em up good are correct.
Re: Nitto Tire Pressure
What kind of gains off your guys' 60' and yoru 1/4 did you see? I haven't used mine at the track yet *obviously*. But, my best 60' was a 2.0790, could I get it down to a 1.85 and knock at least .200 off my E/T with a stock suspension? I am running 22 PSI, and will keep it. I'll put them down to about 15-18 at the track. I don't want to heat them up A LOT because I have these as DD's, and don't want to mess them up. I may go to the track and do 3-5 passes on them.
