Thumbs down 1st time Drag Racing, went to Bristol DRway, TIMES SUCKED, NEED ADVICE!

I went to thursday night street fights at bristol dragway tonight, and didn't even break into the 13's. This was my first time at the track, but i thought i'd at LEAST get into the 13's. I wonder if the times were corrected for alt. and reaction time? anyways My second run was the best being...
R/T-1.011
60'-2.129
330-5.944
1/8-9.086
MPH-78.32
1000-11.791
1/4-14.058
MPH-99.66
My car mods.....
96 White M6
Moser 12bolt Eaton posi w/4.11 gears
V6 rear springs
Nitto DR's
B+M ripper shifter
HPP3 w/160 therm
Custom Ram Air to go with my Harwood Ram Air hood
QtechPerformance E/Cutout
TB Bypass/LT4KM
Weight Reduction (Backseats,Rear carpet,rear plastics,Spare/Jack)
Two runs after this one my clutch was slipping realy bad when i caught 3rd and 4th and made me get a 14.2. So that could be one thing. A big thing is i was running 29psi in my Nitto DRs, and i was wheel hopping so bad when i launched the whole damn car was shaking. Every run i wheel hopped horrible and squalled 2nd a bit. I was launching around 3k to 3.5k the whole time. I got a tire pressure gauge from a nice guy driving a kick *** satalite who said that i should play with it and drop the psi down and try launching at 4k or 2k. So i dropped the psi down to 23 and made my way back to the track when it started raining....*sigh*
My best reaction time was .712 with a 2.206 60 ft time that got me a 14.167 at 99.51. (my 3rd run)
Please, Veteran Drag racers gimme a hand here, i have to get into the 13s this is embarassing. Gimme some advice please.

your only real performance mods are cutout and 4.11 gears, so the times aren't that bad. The first time out can be tough, even with dragradials. You just have to keep working on it and find the right psi and rpms that work for you. Im still working on mine but I am improving (the time was with bald DR's). Maybe you need to change your shift points. When my car was closer to stock, I used a GTECH changing my shift points to find where I would get the best MPH and gained about 2mph on that. I made the same shifts (5000 instead of 5200-5300) on got the same 2mph gain at the track. Maybe your over revving-under revving the car?

Cool

I ran my automatic grocery gettin' Cavalier up at Union Grove, WI and I was disappointed that I couldn't even break into the 17s. Don't forget this is a 2.2L that gets 28mpg on the way to the track w/ air conditioning on full blast. I'm going up to the track next week, hopefully w/ good air, and my new timing advance kit, I'll get into the 17s. Oh yeah my first time racing I pulled a near perfect .507. Oh and I got to the semi-finals bracket racing. And 5 out of 6 runs were under .570. P.S. I'm a chick!

I was shifting each time at 6k, maybe i was overreving for a stock engine. Why was i wheel hopping so bad? I know i can do alot better et if i can stop hopping when i take off.

First off your reaction time has no effect on your ET. It just effects whether you win or lose in racing. The timers don't start 'till after you move.
Second, isn't Bristol at 3200ft elevation or something like that. A low 14 on a hot day at 3200' isn't as bad as it sounds.
Third, get some LCA relocation brackets. They will eliminate the wheel hop.
And lastly try about 18 to 21lbs in the Nittos and launch just high enough to not bog.
Have fun,

Generally I would be looking at around 5600 for a shift point. If the clutch was slipping as you say, that will definitely affect ET and it won't mprove on its own.

I am suprised because with the 4.10's and your sixty foot times I would have figured for getting you into the 13's. Weather has a lot to do with performance and can affect your times easily by 2-3 tenths.

Fix the clutch if it is bad.
Drop the air pressure in the tires to 18020 pounds
Try 5600 for a shiftpoint
Get some LCA's or possibly an airbag and ne rear shocks/springs to solve the wheelhop.

Headers will help with getting the mph up...
