another 17x11 question

Stock springs and shocks, stock brakes......bmr tubular LCAs, stock ride height.
Not planning on lowering any time soon.

I'll either be buying 17x11 ZR1 rims with 50mm backspacing or have my Chrome 10 spoke SS wheels widened to 17x11.

Question1: any spacers needed?

Question2: any pounding of inner fenderwell?

Question3: any bumbstop issues?

Question4: do I need to cut fender lip?

NOTE: I did use the search feature. I know most people have to make these mods, but not many had a pretty stock suspension. So with all the stock stuff in place (except the LCAs), they should fit fine right?

I've been researching this very same thing... and you're still gonna have to do a bit of pounding & rolling, and cut a piece off the bump stop/bracket, even with stock suspension. Actually some aftermarket suspension pieces (adjustable panhard rod) can even make things easier. It sure looks bichen when you've got those big 315's on the back, though!

This thread was recently dug up from the grave, and has a lot of info from many people... in case you haven't read it yet. On pg2 of the thread, Injuneer gives a detailed description of the mods he had to do in order to fit 17x11's. His suspension is not stock, but ride height is actually higher than stock.

Oh yeah, (someone chime in if I'm wrong) I don't think there's any way you could widen your 17x9.5 stockers and have them work... the offset/backspace would be way wrong.

1) Spacers not needed with the 50mm offset. UNLESS, you want them to look more like 36mm offset ZR1 wheels and don't want to mess with the bumpstops. However, adding spacers will probably mean rolling the fender lip.

2) Usually. I have 50mm offset 11 inchers on two cars and had to pound on both.

3) For me, yes, because I didn't want any issues if my car ever got airborne AFS claims you don't need to do anything if you install them by putting jack stands on the frame and then using a jack to raise the rear to a "normal" level in relation to the body. This is true but in many cases if you do this and you go over any large bumps or "whoops" then there is a chance of wheel and bump stop contact.

4) Not with the 50mm offset. You may need an adjustable pan hard bar but shouldn't need to mess with the lip.

Read the article on ws6.com about widening the stock wheels. Yes, they can only add the extra width at the back of the wheel, which makes the backspace too large, but Keith compensated with bolt-on 1" spacers, relocation of the jounce bumper and some body work.

Yep, I never thought of that, Injuneer. Probably it would be cost-prohibitive, though, considering how cheap ZR-1's are on the 'net.

Who cares about cost when you can get something that not many people have. Too many ZR1s

Re: another 17x11 question

a lot of work went into installing my 17x11 zr1's. might not have been as big of a problem if i had 315's on them but i have 335's so i had a little more work to do,

your going to need to pound in your inner fender wells
and modify your bump stops. those are for sure.

I had to totally remove my bump stops and relocate them on the inside of the springs. I have sportlines also. i didnt touch my fender lips but i bent one pulling out of my driveway and had to bend it back, i cracked the paint on that one. i still dont have it how i want it. i had to lift my backend so i can pull in my drive. i want to lower it back to sportline height, i have spacers in my bump stops and im always riding on them. so its a bumpy ride, but my car hooks great cant wait to go to the track
