245/40/18 or 245/45/18

Gong to be buyin some tires and wheels. i've got the option to have 245/40's or 245/45's their an 18x8" wheel. dont know if i want more tire on the side wall or not.

any1 have pics of either or?

You should keep in mind that the correct 18" size is 275/35/18 or 245/40/18 in order to ensure the speedometer reads correctly.

So I suggest the 245/40/18, although I am unsure that will fit on an 8" Wheel, seems awful narrow....

i went with the 245/40's i know 8" is pretty narrow, but the 16x8" wheels my car came with had 245/50's on it.

ill have the wheels next week

Most tire manufacturers will recommend a wheel width of 8.0" to 9.5" for a 245/50-18 tire.

I always use http://www.1010tires.com/TireSizeCalculator.asp to figure out what's best and if stuff fits. I find it quite useful as it also lets you compare multiple sizes to the original one etc.

245/50zr16's are stock, with a larger wheel it needs a lower profile tire, so the 40 series makes the side wall a little smaller. to make up for the bigger rim.

my girlfriends car has stock 225/50/18's. a 245/50/18 would look silly. way too much rubber
