Tires

Well I need to get some DR's for my goat. I'm limited to 245/40/18's. 275/40's are the biggest tire you can fit on these cars with the right rim and fender work, but I'm keeping the stock 18x8" rims. So I'm looking at two DR's, they are...

BFG g-Force KDW DR's 245/40/18's
&
Nitto NT-01 DR's 245/40/18's

I'm leaning more towards the NItto NT-01's, but never heard of anyone running them.

Re: Tires

Yes I see that now, the Nittos are autocross. The BFG's are just tires. I see that BFG dose make a BF Goodrich g-Force T/A Drag Radial, though I don't know if I can get that in the size I need. What tire can I get in a 245/40/18 that is going to hook good and be decent for everyday driving?

Well you dont need DR for the front thats just common sense the BFG you mentioned is what my friend is running and he loves them only he has 315/35/17. They will make that in the 18. As far as the front if you want good traction all season I would say Bridgestone S03 , hands down I have done ride and drives on numerous tires and this one is the best even when they had a 1/4-1/2 in. river we were driving through.

Re: Tires

Yeah I've heard the BFG's are pretty decent. With the tire being tucked under the fender I'm really limited in sizes for the goat. Even with getting new rims with the right backspacking only 275's will be able to fit with fender work. I have 235/40/18 Bridgestone Potenza RE040 on now, and I'm not liking them. Wouldn't hook up at the track at all.

Re: Tires

Is 235/40-18 the stock tire size on the GTO? That would be a 25.4" diameter tire. A 275/40-18 is 26.7" tire. Do you really want to do that.... raise the car another 0.65" off the ground, and give up 5% speedo error and 5% rear wheel torque?

You would want a 275/35-18. BFG makes that size in the g-Force Drag Radial line. They doo not make a 275/40-18.

Do you really want a "drag radial"? Those tires have minimal tread depth, are generally very dangerous in any sort of wet conditions, and wear out in a few thousand miles. And as noted above.... you only put drag radials on the drive wheels.... noton the front.

No as I said I can't fit 275's. I was just saying 275's are max on this car since the tire tucks up in the fender. Of couse to even fit 275's you have to get new rims with the right backspacing and roll or cut your fenders.

I'm going to 245/40/18's. I doubt I will have any problems with that size. I understand DR's have minimal tread depth. A few of my buds use them as everyday drives (Nitto 555's). At the track they hooked great for them. The stock Bridgestone Potenza RE040 are crap IMO. I'm not really looking to buy two new rims just for the back with DR's on them.
