How wide are '96 Convertible SS 16" rims? What can fit?

How wide are the 16" SS rims on the '96 SS convertible models? Are they like the normal ones, 8" ?

I'm going to try to put 215/55R16 on them temporarily for a week, and i'm not sure if they can fit?!?

Thanks!

8inches wide. Why do you want to put 215s on(they'll prob look a little skinny, but not much imo). I dont feel like doing the tire calculator right now... but is the 215/55/16 near the same height as 245/50/16?

Problem is i bought the car with 235/60 tires on, way over normal diameter. But they're also really bad and the rear ones are burned out almost to the inside.

There's a competition going this sunday and my new tires will not get here by then. I ordered a set of 245/50 BFG g-force sport. But i can't race with what i have now, and i found a couple of used but in good shape 215/55 tires to go until i get the new ones, someone is giving them to me for free too...

They're also pretty close to the stock size, but that won't matter since i'll have 2 x 235/60 too which are WAY bigger diameter, which i'll put on the rear, so the car will be nosediving for a week or so

A 215/55-16 should not be used on a wheel any wider than 7.5".

Well injureer, that's what i read there on site site too... I'm a little worried about that, but i have no choice so far... i mean i really want to participate in this event, i've been fixing my car for 1 year now and want to show off a bit

I'm going to use the little ones on front if it gets to it. You think it's dangerous? Can anything bad happen ?

I think with a 55 sidewall it should be able to stretch on a 8in wheel and not be TOO bad... but thats just my personal opinion. Also, I'd prefer to have the best/closest to the correct size tires on the front. I would rather like to have something bad to happen to a back tire then a front tire.

Sure it will "stretch" (the tire manufacturer takes the sidewall profile into consideration), and if it was being used under "normal" conditions, 1/2" wouldn't be any big deal. But to put the wrong size tire on a car that is going to be used in some sort of "competition" is questionable.
