Possible Head or Intake Gasket Replacement
Possible Head or Intake Gasket Replacement
I am looking at a 3.4ltr 94 camaro. It has lost a little power and has some water in the oil. Could this also be a cracked block or or even around the valve seat. In a worst case scenario of the block being cracked or needing new head, what kind of money am I looking at spending. I am picking up the car relatively cheap so not real worried about spending about 1000. Should I be expecting to spend more?? Also the car had a top end overhaul about 10,000 miles ago, could this possible be just an intake gasket leak or head gasket leak(Hopefully). About half cup water in an oil drain. Any information would help thanks
I couldnt tell you how the water got in there, but i know that you can buy a used 3.4 for a few hundred, so thats not a big deal. And if you have to swap, why not go v-8. Thats like $4000 so depends on how much u wanna do.

If hes gonna do that, just go with a Z from the get out.....Like you said it could be as simple as a bad gasket put on by the last guy....OR it could be serious like the block being cracked. I would pull the heads, take a look, and if it's serious, get a salvaged engine. I would say your looking at about 120 bucks for parts and machining the heads IF its a head gasket.
I did a gasket swap in about 5 hours not including the down time for the shop to get the heads back to me. It's been about 2.5 years since i've had the car though.
