plugs and wires install 1997 3.8
well, finally changed my plugs and wires on my 1997 3.8.
Nice engineering, took 3 1/2hrs to do it.
anyway, thought i would share a little info about the different lengths of wires and where they go.
i used ac/delco 41-101 plugs and taylor custom wires model 74243
wire length smallest to largest cylinder #
23"-----------------------------------#5
29"-----------------------------------#3
33"-----------------------------------#2
33"-----------------------------------#4
37"-----------------------------------#6
41"-----------------------------------#1
I also used the accel spark plug boot insulators on all the plugs,as the old plug caps were dry and brittle from the heat. I gave each wire a good dose of dielectric grease on both ends as well b4 install.
That is how i put my wires, but i noticed cyl#4 was at its full length when attached, and cyl#1 wire had some slack, so i think i could of switched 1 and 4., but i left it as in the chart and it works great, better response and no bucking when stepping hard on accelerator.
thought i would share this as it took me a while to find the info.
here is how the cyl are arranged on the motor if looking from the front of the car.
rear of car
#6 #5
#4 #3
#2 #1
Front of car
firing order 1,6,5,4,3,2.
Hope it helps.
