Did you do the said Ls1 swap that you originally posted???

Also, why would it be such a hassle to put an LS1 into an Lt1 era car? Just like anything, if you take the motor and tranny combo with all wiring and computer, you should be able to put it into ANY car. Aren't the mounting locations and driveshaft lengths the same?

yes, that is my experience with my swap.

and about the LS1 into an LT1 era question, magnus would be better at explaining that since that is what he did.

ok here's the deal.........my car is nearing the point of no return, my transmission is on its last leg. Instead of shelling money out to get a new one and continuing to shell out bits of money to keep my 95 3.8l, with 140k+ miles on it, running......i am researching an engine swap.

now i know the basics about the engines:
LT1= 285 HP, 97- cars...
LS1=300 HP, 98+ cars...

but i need more details to decide which one. i got about 4k, is this near enough? and i have fiends that can do the work, they have been nagging me to do this for years!

so give me some insight guys.......pros and cons for both PLZ!

later,

I think your over estimating... from what i've heard you should go over around $3500 if you get decent deals.

Whats the difference between the V6 4L60e and V8 4L60e? Arent they the same thing? If I have a built 4L60e, wont I just be able to use it with an LS1 if I do decide to go V8? Supposibly, Bolt pattern is completely different from V6 to V8. What parts will I need if I want my V6 4L60e to bolt onto a LS1? Doing that will save alot of money since I dont have to get another trans.

I remember a discussion about the differences between the two trannies a while back. You should search it. I think the conclusion was that they were in fact different, I am not sure how though.

The LS1 vs. LT1 is a lot bigger difference then 15hp. 93-96 LT1s had 275 97s had 285. The lowest rated f-body LS1 is 305 and underated. Most LS1 f-bodies dyno 290-300RWHP

V6 to V8 questions

New to the site. I got a 99 v-6, 3800 series camaro about 4 months ago and have loved it so far. It runs good with a few things that bug me. I am very interested in swapping out the engine for a v-8, ( not quite sure what series to go with), and i need to know what are the major things i am going to need to swap along with the engine itself. I would also like to know if anyone has ever done it successfully and is it worth the time and money involved?

We have come to the conclusion that it normally more cost efficient to just sell the V6 and buy a V8, unless you are getting a really good deal and are doing the work yourself. The link in the first post should be a lot of help.

For those still reading through this thread....I did my 3.8 to LT1 swap for a lil over 1200 bucks! I don't know of anywhere you can get a Z28 for 1200 bucks,not to mention the insurance difference from V6 to V8.A lot of people seem to overlook that aspect for the young guys.Not all of us can afford the insurance and car payment that goes hand in hand with a new Z.

Lancejoker, how did you go about doing this? Did you buy a wrecked Z28 and swap it all over? Did you do all the work yourself? How long did it take you? Did you use all the parts www.tacreationsusa.com recommends?
I'm looking to do this sometime in the future, hopefully this summer so any info would be appreciated.
Also lets see some pics of your new Z.

Well I actually bought the motor/tranny etc out of a donor car,not the whole car.You pretty much haver to switch everything,no way around it unless you want some major eventual problems.The 3.4 is a lot easier then the 3.8 to convert to a LT1.The 3.4 uses a lot of the same ac and heating components where as the 3.8 uses parts that aren't compatible with the LT1.Start to finish the whole thing took four days down time.Started Saturday morning and Tuesday night I was driving it around.Still had some bugs to work out but for the most part the headache was over with.I'll email you some a pic cause I don't have any online anywhere.Anyone else who would like to see just shoot me an email and I'll send ya one.Let me know if you have any more questions.
