Cheap/Good Code reader?
Cheap/Good Code reader?
hey guys, im really tired of having to guess whats wrong with my car. I know what it's doing but i would like a more specific read out i.e. a code reader. However, i dont want to spend a ton of money. I have a 95 3.4 v6, ive tried taking it to Advanced Auto and having them hook it up, BUT since the 95 has an OBDII connector and an OBDI comp. the reader they have doesnt work, is there anything i can rig up or something i can do on the cheap to get all my codes? (i want this so that i know which plug is misfiring, so i dont have to do them ALL) thanks guys (also i did a search and didnt really find anything usefull)
Re: Cheap/Good Code reader?
there is no such thing as good and cheap. If you had a 93 and under it takes no more then a paper clip. If you had a 96+ then a $200 scanner will no it. However, on a 94 and 95, no cheap generic scanner will work at all.
Re: Cheap/Good Code reader?
I can feel your pain; seriously. All I can say is that I was able to buy the Actron CP9145 scanner off ebaymotors and simply love it. It read both of my 95s and of course everything newer. I hope you can beg, borrow or buy one of these units. My 99 S10 threw a code. I plugged in the CP9145 and it told me there was a misfire on #2 cylinder. I opened the hood, grasped the #2 plug wire and it broke away from the boot. I've diagnosed and cleared codes on a dozen cars now. Just in case you decide it's something to invest in....
