3.8L Dipstick question

i'm going to be replacing the gaskets in the intake manifold and the valve covers but I can't get the trans dipstick out of the way. The haynes manual says to 'loosen the nut, then move the dipstick but i can find no such bolt. Any help on this issue and any advice on this repair would be much appreciated.

Looking at the diagram in my helms it's just about 1/2 way down the tube from the top, on what looks like a stud attached to the back of the cyl head - and your haynes is correct - it's a nut. Just slide your hand down along the tube and you'll find it. Welcome to the board.

Thanks for the response and the welcome. The local shop wanted to charge me just under 500 bucks for this job but I'm just about sick of bloody knuckles on this car.

As far as the rest of this job (VC gaskets and IM gaskets) any other advice?
