Vent Tube on Tranny
Can someone tell me or have a picture of where exactly the vent tube is on the tranny and can you even get to it? I'm have so much transmission fluid coming out of my dipstick and my friend got under the car to try to find this vent tube and couldn't seem to find anything of course its so hard to move around under the car up on the ramps theirs not much room. The only thing I have done recently was changed the thermostat to a 160 degree. Thanks for the help.

Re: Vent Tube on Tranny
On my LS1, it's at the top, passenger side, coming out around the halfway point and extending forward toward the bellhousing. I'm not sure if LT1 T56s are different.
To reach it, you'll need to lower the trans. It's complicated. Remove the tunnel brace, pull the exhaust, drop the torque arm, disconnect the driveshaft at the u-joint. Don't pull the shaft out of the transmission until/unless you're ready for all the fluid to drain out. Support the bottom of the trans with a jack, then remove the transmission crossmember. Now you can lower the jack and the trans will come down a bit (only as far as the engine mounts will allow).
That should make enough room that you can reach up and get at the vent tube. If you want eyes on the tube, though, you'll have to pull the trans, which means pulling your center console and removing the shifter, and then it's just a matter of unbolting it from the bellhousing and sliding it off the dowel pins. The bellhousing bolts are a bitch to reach and will require several ratchet extensions.
While you have all of this apart, I strongly recommend upgrading the shifter and clutch/flywheel if they haven't been already.

Yes, 4L60E has a vent.
It is on the very top of the trans case, just to the right (passenger side) of the centerline of the case. Right behind the bell housing, a metal tube coming out of the case and pointing backwards.
Not going to be easy to see.
This is out of a thread on LS1tech....

Re: Vent Tube on Tranny
Thanks for your help anyone its been awhile but ended up dropping the transmission and found the transmission filter was not attached at all it was just sitting in the pan. The sleeve that goes up in there to attached the filter was out too so hammered it back in there and put the transmission filter back on and it fixed the problem. I really always appreciate your help!!!
