A Win? 94 Z/28 vs Talon
I decided to go with gears and a stall first (oh yea and nitto dr's) because I wanted to have a better car off the line. Headers is the best buy you can get for one of our cars. Anyways headers cost a lot more then a stall and gears to me. I am going to go with a small stall that is why. Probably something in the 2000-3000 range. Leaning towards 2000. Most people will tell you to go bigger, and go bigger for a faster car. But for now this is my daily driver that is why such a small stall. When I get another car I will put a 3600 stall or so in there. Most people when there first get there car go, cai, headers, cut outs, cat-back... something to that effect. I have a cai on the way so I didn't just go straight to gears. I wanted to get the traction, good launches and things to that effect before the major power. Because for my daily driver I don't want to be slidding around everywhere when I get off from a stop light. I actually am having a problem with my cat right now so will probablly be getting a high flow one real soon. Most people will say do headers (**** I do too) they are a really good mod, but I wanted to be different. When you get far enough down the road you will have the same set-up anyways it is just how you get there.
A bone stock LT1 Z28 automatic w/o a shift kit will burn the tires hard going into 2nd gear with either the 2.73s or 3.23s at 4500' elevation! I know from personal experience. So I don't know if the shift kit is helping you or not. GMs auto trannies are nice how they shift soft when at part throttle and hard at full throttle.

Dude sounds like a good plan, I was going to ask how you are going to hook with 3.73's and a stall but the DR will help that. Have you looked at the SLP 2400 stall? It supposedly doesnt effect driving or miliage much at all ( I like that one). Madwolf uses it on his 233/239 cammed Z. How is this going to be more cost effective than headers for you? Also what kind of cai did you get and why?

I bought a used k&n cai. I have always liked k&n they are very respected, everyone and there mom has had at least a k&n filter. That is basically why. I like the moroso and slp intakes too. Watch the G2 intakes I have heard bad things about them. Send me a link on the stall you are talking about, I have never looked into that one. I figure I got 3.73's, they are on there way for like $90, the 2000 stall I was looking at would be around$400 installed. The gears, I might have a good friend of mine put them in for a few 100. Then tires, I haven't looked up the price on those yet. Probablly around $300. Thats around $1000. And the headers

I would get SLP shorties so I stay legal part # SLP-30015C, then an install kit and shipping and installation. Roughly around the same cost.

Oh and FYI headers would be a better buy at this stage of modding for us. I just wanted to take my own route. I figure if I can hook and have closer gears and a better start then when I do the power mods they will take better effect and I can tell people easier what mod is worth the buy.

my friend's 95 eclipse gsx run 1.9 in the 60' and 14.4 in the 1/4 mile with downpipe and Apexi BOV only. with the exhaust and high boost it should be a close race. I see beating you in first and second gear, but once the awd gets into 3rd gear it just slows down, and even more in 4th.
the thing that alot of people dont understand is dsm's are like b**ches you dont have to put alot of love into them to get alot of love out...
lets put it this way stock they run around 14.8-15.4, but with $1800 and alot of smarts you can make them run high 12's...12.8 to be exact
but if all he has done is raise the boost you will wax his ***

THE PLOT THICKENS
Turns out, as I might have guessed, that the Talon owner was a bit generous with his mod listing.

93 () i cant wait till you kick his *** in a race....cus im tired of him being in his little dream world
305 (11:29:32 PM): well...if he is running the kind of lbs he speaks of, i may have a hard time
93 (11:29:43 PM): ??
93 (11:29:52 PM): he hasnt done anything to the turbo
305 (11:30:22 PM): not what he told evans....
305 (11:30:31 PM): what lbs is he running?
93 (11:30:32 PM): what did he say
93 (11:30:36 PM): not sure
93(11:30:46 PM): what ever it comes stock
305 (11:32:06 PM): but he told evans he has a ton of mods
305 (11:32:12 PM): ? was he lying or what?
93 (11:32:27 PM): for what i know
93 (11:32:29 PM): he has
93 (11:32:34 PM): exhaust
93 (11:32:37 PM): intake
93 (11:32:39 PM): bov
305 (11:32:42 PM): bov?
93 (11:32:48 PM): blow off valve
93(11:33:05 PM): ummm better spark plugs
93 (11:33:11 PM): and i think thats it
93 (11:38:15 PM): umm i dont think he turned up the boost
93 (11:38:42 PM): and he definately doesnt have a boost controller
93 (11:39:01 PM): and im pretty sure it is a 95 talon
93 (11:39:34 PM): plus shawn isnt a good driver
93 (11:40:16 PM): its an auto also
93 (11:40:49 PM): and when i have been in the car it has stalled probably a total of ten times
93 (11:41:03 PM): so he has a vaccuum leak or tuning problems
93 (11:41:50 PM): plus i know for a fact that he hasnt spent more than 1000 on it total
93 (11:43:13 PM): plus the only exhaust he has done is the muffler its self...no downpiping or anything
So basically, I know him too well and he only has the mods mentioned above.
How would I fair now?
