A Win? 94 Z/28 vs Talon

I have a "friend" who is one of those "everything I have is better than yours" attitudes, which I dont care about till he starts taking shots at my Z/28. He has a Talon, I am not sure of the year but it looked newer and its AWD and Turbo'd. The first time I saw his car was when he brought some of my friends over after I put on the GMMG. He immediately started talking trash about my Z/28. My turbo this my AWD that. So I ignored him and thought nothing of it. That was 4 months ago. Well last night he calls my cell phone. He asks what party's are up at college and states that he is with some girls. I said I didnt know I wasnt going out for the evening. He then starts asking when he can beat my Camaro and that he will smoke me hardcore. I said as soon as it comes out for the winter he'll have his chance.

So do I have a chance or will I go home with my tail between my legs? I know stock I am on top but his turbo bothers me.

He has no mods to my knowledge but when he first got it said he was just going to up the turbo psi and smoke me. I dont know if he ever did or not.

How much turbo can I handle?

Should I come back later with more info?

I only have GMMG right now with a A4, and at the strip I get 2.1 60's on stock tires and a 14.2 1/4 mile before the catback.

Thanks for the analysis.

Stock for stock I'd give you the nod.

But you really need to find out more.
How much money he's put into it and how many lbs. of boost he runs would help greatly.

I hope he realizes that just because he's beaten one Camaro that doesn't mean he can beat them all.

Find out exactly what he has done and I'll let you know. Even if he has upped the boost, it won't matter unless he's upgraded the stock BOV because it can't hold more than 12lbs without leaking. If he is still bone stock and you run no worse than a 14.2, it's an easy win for you. Friend sounds like a cocky guy who really has no idea what he's talking about.

You are exactly right, he's like this in every aspect. From paintball to sports to cars. He always has the best and can always beat you. But almost always he gets owned and makes mad excuses. I just dont want him to get the drop on me, cause he'll never let me live it down. You just cant let yourself get beat by people like that.

As far as the turbo, He is way to cheap to buy a new one and he will have someone else increase his stock one. He never has a clue, he makes decisions on one bit of info and never changes his mind.

I'll get more info asap.

You should probably beat him then.
From what I've heard, dsm's don't start to get crazy fast till you've replaced most of the stock turbo parts... which it sounds like he has no idea about what to do...

And if he actually knows how to drive...
Just remember he's awd, might get the jump, but you should pass him like a freight train once you start rolling through second gear.

95-99 DSMs need new parts. 90-94 models do quite well with the stockers and a few well-placed mods. But, the older it is, the less likely it is to be in good shape. It's pretty rare to find a non-POS DSM these days.

when I raced a talon I had a hell of a time pulling on him. from around 75 to 130 I gained maybe 1 1/2 to 2 carlengths on him. I know that if I would have raced the guy from a start I would've gotten whooped. but then again my car is pretty much all stock right now and he HAD to have modded his.

Here is the info I got from my friend Dan, evidently he (talon owner) was bragging to my friend about how he will kill me in a race. He was so nice as to list all his mods to Dan, mwuahahaha.

Mods To Tubro AWD Talon (We think it is a 92 Gen. 1)

Directly pasted from the convo--

Iradum plugs
Apexi BOV Apexi N1 Exhust
K&N Intake
Turned the boost up to about 18 psi (knowing him we think this may be an exaggeration)
3in Down pipe
High flow cat 3 in piping to the N1
new 4 stage struts

These are all his mods to date.

Any ideas guys?

Thanks

as long as he doesnt have a boost controller, bigger turbo, or front mount intercooler, or cams. i think you should be fine. my buddy has a 96 talon tsi , with a 20 karat turbo, the biggest u can put on those cars, front mount intercooler, act stage 3 clutch, k&n , 3 in dwn pipe, 3 in exhaust, 1st gen bov, iridium plugs, and he runs high 13s 13.91 , 13.96. were a few times, and hes a good driver. you friend may get the jump on you (awd) but if he launches at 5000+ rpms he will snap an axle, i have seen it happen before. after you get out of the hole just like Green Demon said , you will pass him like a freight train. Plus its an old car, and is prolly out of tune, turbo needs rebuilding, ect, ect. Just like John M said, you cant find a DSM these days that really isnt a POS. but there are some. also is his car a auto or M5? Go Get em

here is what my friends first gen AWD Talon has

ported 16G Turbo
CAI
full exhaust/downpipe
huge front mount intercooler
boost controller at ~20psi
built tranny

all this crap gets him hight 13's at about 100
all these mods total about 10 grand so unless he has alot of money in the car you should be ok.
He jumps me pretty hard but after that I can pull him in my car.
