On the beltway I average around 20-22mpg. Not too shabby.

Sure it can I've done it with my old setup. I consider the Nittos to be "street tires"

Yeah, on the highway babying it. I got 14.7 mpg out of a brand new bone stock LT1 in town punching it all the time a few years ago.

They havent made LT1s for about 7 years. But yea, if it was an auto then yea. Autos suck for gas mileage. But i got 31 mpg on a small cammed LT1 with 112k on it. Now, city driving is a whole new story. All muscle cars get crappy city mileage, thats a known fact.

Back to the original topic:
I have seen VERY few LS1s in bone stock form in the low 13s. I know a buddy who CAN drive his car and has a full bolt on 99 (LS6 intake, LT headers, LID, Borla....) and he cant break 13.5 in Texas heat. Some are factory freaks and run better than others, but i hate to break it to you... an LS1 is a 13 second car until you mod it.

Actually, the original topic was: A guy at work is a moron.

You may have only seen a few ,but there are plenty bone-stock ls1s that have run low 13s.You have not seen a 01-02 ls1 with a six-speed have you?I will say Ive heard of ls1s breaking in to the 12s bone stock ,but the only one I know for sure is the one car craft did.Car Craft mag got a 12.9 out of an ls1 camaro on drag radials only.

Here is a little article that talks about 2 cars (the LS1s at the top of the article) that should surely be labeled "factory freaks":

Oh...and gas mileage was brought up. This past spring, I took my 99 Cobra up to DC and back. 28 mpg (all highway). It's not stock, btw.

my first mustang was a 2000 v6 which i still use on a daily basis... my buddy brian had a v6 camaro with exhaust intake and shifter. grant you mine is an auto v6... i still creamed him twice!!!! he now has a ls1 z 28 and i still creamed him with my mach.... this time im stick and he's auto!!!

either way i love ls1's and hate cocky drivers... no matter what they drive. cuz a good friend of mine a 04 ZO6 that could spank the crap out of most people and he's the most humble guy i know. its a TT Z06 putting down almost 700hp!!!

Usually the more a guy has the less he brags.

mm&ff editors are better than average drivers, that's for damn sure. i don't think that a 320 rwhp m6 2001-2002 ls1 fbody is all that rare, though. that number is at the higher end of what i have seen posted, but doesn't power output usually vary by 5-10% on mass produced engines?

steve y, what is your 60 ft with drag radials?

It is not rare - at all, which was the point. Also, MM&FF reports STD corrections vice SAE, which would bring that 320 down to ~313 RWHP.

It is my opinion that power output varies 2-3% (above and below) the average.

No idea. But way better than the 2.24 that I pulled with street tires! I haven't had them at a timed track yet, only to the untimed grudge racing track.
