The only time you notice the cobra embossed in the bumper is when guys put the gay chrome or reflective letters on it. I think it's very common to do that just so people recognize it as a Cobra. Otherwise you could easily miss it.

Third brake light? Yeah, I always look to see how many brake lights are on a car.

Like I said, the only thing that sticks out is the lower stance and wider tires, which a stock Mustang could easily accomplish.

SO that only leaves the decklid as the only noticable distinguishing factor. Yeah, big difference over the base model.

Like I said, I don't hate the Cobra; I just think FORD should have distinguished it better. I do like the stance it has with the lowered chassis and better wheels.

Dan.
gm made the SS and WS6 stick out because thats all it had over a z28 and a trans am. they were the exact same cars. saying the cobra is just a base model is like saying your car is a hopped up v6 with different badges. honestly if you cant tell the difference between a cobra and a v6 mustang thaen you have some serious issues. now confusing a z28 with a v6 camaro can be understandable because really badges, exhaust tips are the only exterior differences.

Did I ever say that I couldn't tell them apart? What I was saying is that the GT and especially the Mach 1 are easier to distinguish over the base model than the Cobra, in my opinion. Some guys may like it that way. Not me. I think they could have done something better with the styling to go with the power.

BTW, how do you know why GM made the SS look different? I was an engineer for GM when the SS's were being produced. They didn't make the SS's look different because, as you say, they didn't have that much more power than the Z28. Why would they even bring out the SS then? They were about buying that Camaro that was extra special, for the hardcore enthusiast.

Yeah...you're right. The only thing not actually changed is the taillights.
Maybe Ford should paint "HOME OF THE WHOPPER" in big bold letters on the decklid and stick a set of god-awful orange LeMans stripes on it to distinguish it.

This light is integrated into the spoiler, not the decklid, as with other Mustangs. It's a distinct difference when viewing the car from the back.

Would this be the hardcore enthusiast who doesn't mind paying an extra $8-10k for a hood scoop, rear spoiler and 17" wheels? They did it because they were cheap. Period. A true hardcore enthusiast, one who isn't brainwashed by a manufacturer, would have no need for these items. These guys would buy stripper Z's with rollup windows and manual locks. IMO, what's so "extra special" about the SS additions? The only things worth a sh*t on those cars are the shifter upgrade and the tire/wheel package. I wouldn't touch an Auburn rear with a 10' pole and the aftermarket catbacks are better alternatives.

I kind of like it when people think my Formula is a V-6 firebird. Then let them get a closer look at my bumper Hahaha I still can't talk trash about a Cobra because it is a lot faster than my LT-1. I still wouldn't own a ford..... but hey i don't see any '03 F-bodies.... and i would probably take a Cobra over a GTO if i was spending that kind of cash.

P.S. you can buy a ZO6 for way under 50k, I work at a gm dealership and we are getting rid of a 2003 ZO6 with 9k miles for $36,000 MINT.

Thumbs up

With the C6 coming out, the C5 (including Z06's) are selling for very attractive prices. That's a great car for not-a-lot of cash.
However, the same can be said for '03/'04 Cobras. Used, under 10k mile cars are in the $25k range.

Snorman,

Hey, to each his own. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, and I gave you mine. If you don't like it, you can cry on someone elses shoulder.

I like the Cobra just fine, but the styling is way understated in my opinion. If you think that the Cobra stands out and is an easily differentiated Mustang at first glance, then so be it.

BTW, I'm not the one that started the whole SS comparison. I was just stating what I had heard about the reason for the SS when I worked at GM. Is it a ripoff? Tell that to any of the SS owners. They paid for the car, full well knowing the performance. Personally, I think the SS was overpriced. To those that bought one though, it was priced just fine. I bought my Z28 new, and could have bought the SS, but just like you stated, the gains just weren't worth the extra $$$ at the time.

Wow, what a great selling point . . .

I just look for rear bumper or badges. I don't care enough about Disgustangs to memorize the spoiler or tail light options. I've not been beaten by one yet so the only reason I even look is to know if it's a Cobra or GT that still thinks they have a fast car.

Just trying to stir things up alittle more.

Sheash, so much animosity on this board.

Who said it was? The selling point is the hardware you get with Cobra.

Cool. I feel the same about 4th gens, but I can't tell 'em apart without looking at the badges anyway.

You should really stop picking on V6's. Too bad you and your slow SS are in Florida. I love hurting fragile egos in a 6-cylinder brick.

Any car can be fast when it's modded but the mustang will always be gay, modded or not
