Ams evo dyno video
Re: Ams evo dyno video
Not sure why it took so long to start spooling. If you use a two step to launch off the line you can build up boost and get off line much better.Or a stall in an auto turbo car.
Re: Ams evo dyno video
Help me out here. Was he WOT the hole vid, or did he hit it at 3500 rpm?
35+ PSI is pretty impressive, but that's what totally sucks about 4 cylinders. You don't get decent acceleration in the normal daily driving RPM's (1500-3000 rpm). That's why turbo and SC V8's are such a blast. You have low RPM acceleration due to the V8 displacement and amazing top end due to the boost.
If that EVO is dedicated to 1/4 mile times, then props to him
, but if it's a daily driver, then
Driving that thing in it's boost range would be a MAJOR PITA.

Also - huge power in the lower rpms mean little when you have gearing....furthermore I don't know anyone who races from 1500-3000rpm. Everyone thought Bob Cosby was nuts for running 4.56 gears in his Cobra until they saw his results.
Re: Ams evo dyno video
Off boost a 2.0 like stock talon can be pretty weak but the engines do rev fast. Also you can greatly drop full spool up rpm by going to bigger motor. For example 2.4 engine in dsm versus that stock 2.0. You can also use a few other tricks like lighter flywheel, open up the exhuast and intake, bigger maf ,heck we use gm mafs as mods in the dsm cars.
On the highway the lag is zero problem. You simply bang down a gear or two.An ls1 or lt1 is gutless in sixth gear too same idea.you bang down to fourth or fifth in your lt1 or ls1 or you lose highway races really badly too.
The turbo will then be at full spool with a downshift. Off the line in city driving huge turbos can suck a bit but a 2.4 engine with a bit higher compression than normal say around 9 to 1 gives pretty good off boost performance. And as I said to get more boost off the line you can use two step limiter. And there is even something called antilag that helps too. Most of the time you will use the two step for track and around town no big need to go into big boost off the line 99% of the time. Gas isn't cheap. If I want to launch super hard just use the two step.Problem solved.
I think the evo is running a GT35R .very big turbo. so some lag can be expected but these cars are also doing numbers like 140 mph in the quarter. Not too shabby. And you are right from a roll the awd is negated quite a bit.

Re: Ams evo dyno video
No anti import setiment here..could care less what I drive as long as it performs...Sorry but for the last mth or 2 these boards have been flooded w/ 600 hp evo vids killing vipers,supras,z06's etc...Think its hilarious when people bitch about the negative feedback about import posts on this site..but hey its a camaro board believe it or not there might be a few guys around here that hate yes I said hate imports...So either live w/ it or go hang out on import sites.

As far as not racing from 1500-3000 rpm, you are just re-enforcing my point. I said that daily driving, that is where you are typically in RPM's, and it sucks if you have no power/torque in those RPM's since daily driving is what you do most of the time. You aren't WOT at 3500+ RPM's typically unless it is a dedicated 1/4 miler.

Re: Ams evo dyno video
[QUOTE='88Saleen]Camaros are cool muscle cars but no matter how much $$ you put into a evo it wont be a cool car. Is that the same evo that only ran 9.9 on the AMS site? I think its hillarious that a car (that evo) is creating such a uproar on here and the fact my car is faster.
Ya really man. You have a freaking 17 year old car that would whoop that evo's ***, and you dont even get any special respect for it.

Seeing a 9 second import is still a less frequent site than a 9 second domestic, which is why it's noteworthy. Make sense?

Have you ever driven a modern turbo 4 cyl such as an Evo or even an SRT-4 like mine? I kind of doubt it based on your comments in this thread. I can assure you they're plenty driveable.
Re: Ams evo dyno video
Well the reason the EVO gets so much attention is because it is beating the cars from a roll. Which is not it's strong point being a AWD. That and it is a 4cyl car doing it to force fed 8cyl cars also. But big red jim said it wasn't the same car so we don't know what that car runs in the quarter mile.
As for the daily driving of that car. I'm sure it isn't the best thing to drive around but I believe it is a 2.0 stroker which makes it a lot better in the low rpms. Also a 2.0ltr isn't really that bad on a 6 speed car even without the boost.
On my galant it isn't really without the boost and i have a 5 speed car with even less mods then that car. But it is no where near the low end power that my Camaro had.
