06 GT vs 97 LT1 vid
How is it with time that cars seem to get faster than when it was their hayday.
I own both a LT1 and a edgebody mustang (2000 gt) which were comparable unless you speak to the diehard brand loyalist. They have always been a drivers race.
Now the 3valve mod motor mustangs are a bit quicker and should run times closer to LS1's. I have no experience with either but only have seen time slips from both.
I dont know where people are getting off with these comments. Your car is only as fast as you can drive it. But for comparisons sake giving all conditions equal the GT would run away from a LT1.

WHen you say all conditions equal a GT runs away from an LT1 are you talkin stock 05 GT vs stock LT1? Most of the time that would be true.

I base my LT1 judegement off of owing one...5 friends owning them...the countless ones I have seen at the track.

I would have to agree with that. '99 - '04 GT's (not '03/'04 Cobras) were only 260 HP (stock) and LT1's were rated what, 275 or 285 HP stock?
(perhaps slightly under-rated at that??

14.55 with an M5 99' GT?! Ouch... I have seen a few run high 13's bone stock. Hell, an ex of mine had a bone stock 04' A4 GT that ran 14.60's completely stock.Oh well, there are ringers & duds in every make and model.

No Im saying it in this order LS1>GT3valve>GT2valve/LT1.
And my 94 Camaro actually has a 96 engine with better STOCK heads. And a race built 4l60e with a converter, longtube headers, ORY, flowmasters.... Now Im not saying my 2000 could beat it as it sits now but I have seen plenty race and know the outcome. A decent(not factory freak) 99-04 5speed should be in the 13's.
You need to consider that most people are more familiar with the mustang and many more losers buy em. Most time slips you will see obviously will be slower because you have younger more ignorant people driving them.
As for the comment on the autos, Ford has a pretty bad auto tranny compared to the 60e. The 5 speed is its niche.

The 2 valve is not equal to the LT1 in any way shape or form.I detroyed so many GT's when I bought my very first LT1 you would have thought they where v6 cars.It dont net as much power stock,dont compare in the torque dept. and the gap grows wider once you start modding the two of them.

. People don't usually get banned here for putting down Chevys or praising Fords ... obviously you won't get overwhelming support, but it's not grounds for being "banned" ... that is a concept I have only ever seen on a couple Mustang boards, seriously!
Hell, even Mustang guys (not just GM "trolls") get banned if they say anything against Mustangs?!

At least I can back mine up:350 HP > 300 HP > 285 HP > 260 HP

The gt2valve/LT1 was meaning they are too similar in performance. It is a slash, meaning either could win in a outing. Im not saying the LT1 is a dog!
And you should be ashamed of yourself for looking at just the factory numbers given for hp and using that as your claim. What about the weight difference? What about the hp and tq curves? What about rear end gearing? Seriously!
Now Im not insulting the LT1 at all, I actually like the tq factor presented from the LT1 more so than any other car out there. Im just stating that a good running 5speed GT and a good running LT1 will be comparable on any given day with the race usually going to the better driver.

. And mod-for-mod, some respond better than others. All the little things count, and the conditions matter too (weather, street/track conditions) ... but IMO, if you put the same driver into all 4 of the cars in question, the order I posted would stand true. Can a Mustang beat an LT1 or an LS1?? Damn right they can! Do they have to be modded to do it? Nope! Probably not. But while the HP "ratings" are just that, there is a degree of accuracy to them, and that pecking order isn't far out of order
