Re: body strength withough a cage

If you're concerned about clearances and getting in & out of the vehicle, why not go with a Wolfe Racecraft cage? They have "low slung" door bars that makes it easier to get in & out of the vehicle. Also, they have a (free) option for the rear bars to mount "over-the-seat", instead of having to cut holes in the interior panels...

Well, depending on how lax your local dragstrip is, they may not even look close enough to see if your rollcage has a removable center bar. I know my local dragstrip doesn't look that closely...

Re: body strength withough a cage

one is...they wouldnt know the difference between pvc and steel. but the other is pretty strict.

also, what is the rule with a harness...do you need a 5 point harness?

From the NHRA rule book:
All cars in competition requiring a roll bar or a roll cage, or as outlined by Class Requirements, require a five-point, 3-inch-wide SFI 16.1 DRIVER RESTRAINT SYSTEM
And, the harness is only good for 2 years from the date of manufacture, unless is has been recertified by the manufacturer.

I think it should be more along the lines of what's the point of having a bar if it doesn't do it's job and save your life in an accident because all the bars are removeable (AKA weaker).

IMO, when you have a car that needs to have a roll-bar into it, then it's time to make some sacrifices; AKA the back seat, or useability of the back seat for people. If you want the back seat, then don't have a bar and don't race at the track; if you want/need a bar, then you have to loose the useability of the back seat. Tradeoff... just like everything in this game. You want more HP, you loose on gas mileage; you want better handling, you loose some ride comfort; everything is a balance, and you can't have everything.

Re: body strength withough a cage

i know. i am totally in agreement. i just ment...why do they even make a removable bar if its not legal/safe. who would put that in just for show.

once my car passes that 11.5 mark, a 6 point is going in.

how about the swing out door bars? are they legal?

Re: body strength withough a cage

thats retarded IMO. i dont see why you would wanna cut up your car, put holes in the floor, and remove the back seats...'for show'.

but then again, i feel the same way about riced out 91 civics with a surf board for a wing. and dont forget those decals that 10hp! haha...losers...
